Views on a heating blanket
I have a heating blanket that I normally use when it gets cold. My Dr hadnt put it on the list of No-No's but when I posted on FB about it weeks ago someone freaked out about how I could overheat the baby.
I only put it on 2 or 3....
I looked it up on "google" and yes it says not to overheat etc. but if I keep it low?
I don't want to turn the heat on **yet**. Its 62 in the house and tad lower at night and would like to just take the edge off.
I'll turn on the heat if I can't have my heating blanket, but thought I"d ask here first
Thanks!
Re: Views on a heating blanket
Personally, I wouldn't use it. When I'm pregnant I find that I get really overheated mid-way through the night-I will go to bed with a sweatshirt on and wake up with it off. If it doesn't have a shutoff mechanism, you also run the risk of it catching fire (extreme case example, but true....)
In the winter we just add an extra blanket to my side of the bed since DH is aways hot.
If you are healthy & wouldn't have any reason why you wouldn't wake up if you were getting too hot (ie. we tell elderly folks with poor circulation/sensation problems/dementia/etc not to use them) I can't imagine why it would be a problem.
I have no idea what your heating blanket is like but if we're talking 2-3 out of 10 I bet it will be "lukewarm." If you get too warm, you'll wake up.
We have a heating mattress cover instead of blanket. I normally LOVE to curl up in it, but last winter, it was too hot even on the lowest setting! But, I still got cold sometimes... so I just turned DH's side on (he was working nights at the time), and I got enough heat from his side that I was good. If my feet were cold, I could put my feet on his side of the bed but everything else got overheated super fast.
As long as you will wake up or kick it off if you get too hot, I don't see why it would be a problem assuming normal circulation, etc...

I didn't use ours either pregnancy. I wasn't as worried about the heat, but the electricity. I am admittedly overcautious about things.

I would get too hot as the pregnancy went on during the winter...for now just put an extra blanket on or socks... something you can take off easily in the night.
we have a down comforter....invest in those....they are wonderful and ditch the electric blanket..or turn the blanket on before bed turn it off when you climb in so your bed is warm to start off with
This is me. I use the blanket to warm up the bed before I get in, but I'd get way too hot if I kept it on. Give yourself more time and you won't even think about the heating blanket
I'm pretty sure I froze DH out when I was pregnant during the winter months!
