do you greet your friends w/ compliments?

I was watching RHs last night, and everytime anybody showed up, there was a kiss-kiss hello and then a compliment or multiple compliments about each other's appearance, "your hair looks great" "I love that blouse" "Don't you look gorgeous today"

Is this a RH-thing or is this something other regular women do too?

Re: do you greet your friends w/ compliments?

  • I don't always do it, but I will if I notice something in particular (the compliments, that is)!
  • If there is something to compliment, sure. I don't compliment for the sake of complimenting, but I willl often tell someone they looks nice or I like their shoes.
  • Kathryn, I think we need to have a discussion about your RH watching.

I agree, I'm not going to say something just to have a compliment, but if there is something genuine I will say it.

  • Honestly, it depends on who the person is.  If I see the person on a regular basis, most likely I'm not going in for the kiss and complimenting them every time I see them.  If it's someone I see a few times every so many months, I may pay a compliment to them along with a kiss depending on the comfort level I'm on with that person.

This is probably flameworthy on this board but shocker, I can't stand the RH franchise.  I feel like they are probably doing the aforementioned because they're trying to out-do one another while mentally stabbing the person in the eyes with a sharp knife.

  • It depends. If I notice something about them that I want to compliment, I will, otherwise, no. Also, I don't always hug/kiss people in greeting. That also depends on the person.

  • My friends definitely do but I get it more from my family.  My aunt acts like the best thing that's ever happened in her life is to see you in this very moment.  Big "HELLOOOO!!  How ARE YOU!!!  LOOK at that necklace!  It's BEE-YOU-itful!!!!"

Ever since that article about how to talk to girls went around, I try to follow this up with a question about school or pets or friends or hobbies when I'm greeting my younger cousins but it's hard when that greeting + compliment is so ingrained.

  • I try to do that too with my nieces! And tell them how smart and kind they are, not just pretty. As for friends, I don't greet them with a compliment unless I notice something that is compliment-worthy and then it's genuine.

  • I do it more often than I realize.... I will almost always do it to break the ice when meeting someone new because it will get them to talk about themselves and relax a little (something I do with my job a lot) but I don't always do it with my friends unless I notice/see something I like.

  • I don't feel the need to at all but if I do notice something different- new hair, cute shirt, cute outfit, etc I do make a point to give them a compliment about it. I think if you greet with compliments every time or even most of the time it just seems fake.
  • I do if I feel the need to compliment - if I love the necklace, great haircut etc. I don't do it just to do it.

  • It's funny, I definitely noticed that too with the RH of BH cast and it was definitely overkill.  Kyle is the worst offender.  And Kathryn, I am always up for RH chat!

  • Generally, I don't do it, unless I notice something specifically wonderful!
