Are you familiar with any of these OB's?

My RE plans to "release" me once they see a heartbeat, which will hopefully be in the next two weeks.  That means I need to start making calls to find an OB/GYN (never found one when I moved here from MA).

I'm pretty sure I want to deliver at St. Joe's North (originally I was thinking the St. Joes down by Raymond James, but my husband is worried about my going into labor during rush-hour :))

I was looking at which doctors, who deliver at St. Joes North, are covered by my insurance and these are the options.  Anyone familiar with these ob/gyn's?

  • Deborah Cohen
  • Amy Cotton

Re: Are you familiar with any of these OB's?

  • I was under Dr. Shonda Perry's care my last pregnancy as she just joined the OB group that I go to. She's a very nice lady...very calm and approachable.

  • I'm not aware of any of these Drs, but just wanted to say its cute about the rush hour thing.  But you can let him know labor is not like in the movies, especially the first, at least for the most part. My water broke first and I could have sat through about 6 rush hours before that kid came out!

haha.  My hubby said something similar...since I work near Celebration, a lot of the parents of students at my school, as well as coworkers have delivered at Celebration Hospital.  So, they all think that is where I should deliver...well, we live in lakeland so it would be about a 40-45 min drive.  I just like the convenience of LRMC and plus I am very familiar with it since I worked their for 4 years.  My DH was concerned that I would go into labor and not be able to make it to Celebration in time.

  • Time wise, you would most likely have time to get to St. Joe's.  But who the heck wants to sit in traffic while you're in labor? lol - It was a 25 minute drive to the birth center and it was the worst 25 minutes of my labor!

ETA: I don't know anything about doctors in the area. Good luck on your search though!

  • My water broke, I woke up, took a shower and ate a meal before going to the hospital.  The person in the worst shape?  xH.  He was a schizo mess trying to get me to the hospital.  He kept saying, "Please don't have the baby here.  Please.  Please please please."  Mom and I just laughed at him the entire time.

  • I actually just called our friends who originally recommended St. Joes North and they said that since it's still kind of new they'd probably recommend we just stick to St. Joes Women's.  Time to pull a new, hopefully expanded, list :)

  • A friend of mine is a L&D nurse at St. Joe's Women's.  If you come up with a few names I can run them by her.

  • I can't offer any Dr advice but wanted to say Congrats on being so close to being released to your OB! It was an amazing(and a little scary) day for me when they told me I wouldn't be coming back there.  Who are you seeing if you don't mind me asking? I was seeing Dr. Goodman at RMG in Tampa.

I'm at RMG as well.  My doctor of record was Dr. Bernhisel, but Dr. Yeko and Dr. McCormick did my actual procedures.

Dr Perry does deliver at SJH. That's where I had both DDs.
