Christmas Traditions

Hey, ladies! This is my DH and I's first holiday season away from our family.  We'll be going back home for Thanksgiving but we'll be staying here for Christmas.  Since our holiday traditions have always involved family, I figure it's now time to start our own.  I also thought it was time to liven up the board a bit with a random question!

So...what are YOUR Christmas traditions?  (it doesn't have to Christmas day)

Re: Christmas Traditions

  • The day after Thanksgiving, DH and I go pick out our Christmas tree. We come home, put on Christmas music, get some wine and have fun decorating the tree together. We also like to go see Celebration in the Oaks and the different caroling groups at the Cathedral. Christmas eve/day are super busy trying to see everyone and both sides of the family. Later Christmas night we go to one of his great uncle's houses. They have this really fun tradition called pous(sp?) cafe. They take all kinds of different colored liquors and have to layer them in a tall shot glass. If you mess it up, its bottoms up for you!! Some of the drinks get very complicated, but also very pretty since they are all different colors. It doesn't taste very good going down, but it's still a fun tradition with lots of good-natured teasing. His two great uncles get like mad scientists trying to figure out densities, weights......it's quite funny to watch!

  • We always go and cut down our own Christmas tree after Thanksgiving, we also go to Christmas on Fulton Street.  It is always so pretty over there.  Christmas in the Oaks and we usually just drive around in neighborhoods looking at Christmas lights.
  • We always get a christmas tree the sunday after thanksgiving. Then we spend the afternoon decorating the house. I just love christmas. We also get 1 ordament that signifies something special we did that year. Something little, but over the year we hope to get a good collection going! Christmas in the Oak is also fun!

  • We buy an ornament from every vacation we go on.  Whenever we pull out the ornaments to decorate the tree it reminds us of all the fun trips we have been on.
