Homemade Laundry Detergent
Does anyone use it? How do you feel it compares to the store bought kind?

Re: Homemade Laundry Detergent
I love it. I make one kind for our clothes and another for our cloth diapers. I use dryer balls in the dryer and everything comes out super fluffy and soft and smelling good.
For regular laundry I mix up 1 cup each of Borax and washing soda and 1/2 cup of oxiclean, then put in all in the food processor with a bar of ivory soap. I use 2 tbsp in my HE washer.
That's for regular clothes. For the dipes I omit the ivory soap.
I used the EFF recipe for cloth diapers and regular clothes. I like the regular clothes one just fine. I do have to start my washer on hot though so the soap melts (I use Fels Naptha...I don't think I'll use it again though). I have an old top loader though so its not that big of an issue.
I did not like the recipe for cloth diapers at all though. The ingredients were too harsh for DD and she ended up with a rash. I messed around with it for a few weeks but I just could not get them clean enough and ended up with the stink. So we went back to regular Tide and all is well. :shrugs:
(I still don't get how Tide doesn't upset her tush lol)
I'm so leery about recommending cloth diaper detergents though. Everyone's water and washer is so different that in most cases the same thing (routine/detergent) will not work for the same two people. Its so EASY and cheap though that it's worth a shot!
