  • I'm a huge jerk face for this, but I hate passing out candy. H and I always go out to a long dinner and drinks for Halloween night. Embarrassed

I don't think you're a jerk. It's kinda annoying. The years we get a bunch of acndy we have like 1 person come and the year we don't, people come all night. I prefer not to pass it out and usually walk around with my nephew while he does his trick or treating. :)

  • I live in an apartment, so we don't pass out candy.  DH and I only buy Halloween candy for ourselves and we buy AFTER Halloween for the discounts Smile

ditto, so I picked the last answer

but if I did hand out candy, I wouldn't 'run out to get more', it's not an emergency ;)  Heck, I'd probably shut down a little early so there was some left for me!

  • Ditto amandasw and mgoss - I haven't had any trick or treaters the whole time I lived in WA state except for the year our college campus organized something for the neighborhood kids and the one year I lived in Ballard, my only trick or treater was my neighbor boy who lived below me (and I had told his mom to bring him by). I don't know if we'll get trick or treaters at the house since it's our first year. But, when we run out, we run out.

  • We'll leave a bowl of candy out on the doorstep and go off and do our own thing. If there's any left, we eat it!

Usually, though, I prefer buying the after-Halloween-deep-discount candy. ;)

  • I only buy it once but we don't get trick or treaters where we live so we basically just buy it for ourselves.

  • When we stay here at our place, we never get trick-or-treaters, even though we live in a condo community (kids would clean up out here!), it's really weird. We might get them this year, though, since there are more kids around. We'll see. But when we go up to the ILs for Halloween weekend (DH's family usually throws a party), they get tons of kids. They also buy full-sized candy bars from Costco. I always go home with a few extra Butterfinger bars. :)

  • my parents live in a neighborhood where kids from around the area come by for trick or treating. it's quiet(safe), well lit, good sidewalks, and there are no stretches of dark houses or open fields... it *used* to be common that if you didn't give out candy, you'd get egged, tp'd, or had pumpkins smashed in your driveway....but this has phased out......i think it was just the punks my age that did this ;)

my parents every year used to spend about $100 on candy (my parents are against buying "cheap" candy, and went with name brand chocolate)...then near the end of the night, they'd send me out trick or treating to get more candy to "recycle".

my neighborhood now only gets a couple...i bought 4 bags of candy, just in case...and we hardly went through 2 bags. i easily ate the rest.

my parents now have caved and started buying cheap candy.

ETA: i love opening the door for trick or treaters :)
