Help me rename my biz & get a chance at $50 gift card

I'm posting under an alter ego because the link below has my real name, but I've been a knottie turned nestie since 2003.  A few months back I took a big leap and joined a friend in her business. We do marketing communications for organizations committed to social good and we're in the process of renaming our business. We're trying to get as much input as possible, so please take our very quick survey to help us pick a new name!

Survey link: http://svy.mk/mUD850

We're giving two lucky participants their choice of a $50 Whole Foods, Starbucks or Network for Good card!

Thanks!

  • Psst. My public service announcement of the day: If you haven't already, I recommend contacting a lawyer about clearing the name you choose.

I agree.  I'd actually look into some of these names a little further before widely launching this survey... one of them on the list is already a design firm in existence, less than a mile from your location!

  • Thanks! We've checked the ones on the list via the USPTO trademark search, a google search and domain name search.  Do you know what a lawyer would do in addition to that? Clearly we don't want to pick a name and invest in branding it only to find out there is a problem with it, so I really appreciate the advice!

  • DONE!

One I really liked, but like pp said, it sounds kinda familiar so check with legal.

  • I sent you a PM, let me know if you didn't get it...
  • I voted, too. I don't love any of the names, sorry :)
  • I voted too (and now I know who you are Smile)  Good luck!

  • I voted and I should have included this in the comments but forgot, so I'll put it here.  You already have some brand recognition with NaNa, is there a way you could incorporate that into your new name.  It sounds like you are taking on a new line of business which you want to recognize but perhaps that's possible without re- branding completely.  Perhaps Nana Design and Strategic Communications or Nana Communications.
  • The primary service that an attorney can provide is his or her legal opinion on the likelihood of a conflict. If you're looking at those sources, but are not a trademark attorney, you may or may not be able to assess the risks involved.  Just my 2 cents. To be clear, this is not specific advice related to any particular name.  I didn't look at them.  This is just a general PSA.
  • BirdGirl - thanks so much for this advice!

Thanks to everyone for taking the survey - I really appreciate it.

We did consider keeping Nana in the name somehow because of the brand equity. However, it has been a challenging name.  It is the Hebrew word for mint, and my partner used it in connection with freshness, but most people think grandma when they hear it.  Weighing the pros and cons, we feel that it is time for a change and have a plan about the transition.

Honestly, I'm not in love with any of the names either. We went through literally hundreds of possibilities. This is really hard. The ones we really liked are taken by companies that are too close in either business or location.  We have received a few creative suggestions via the survey, which is what we were hoping for.

    Thanks again!

  • BTW - 30 replies from nesties so far! Thanks so much. I was happy that we had 110 this morning, now we've really got some feedback!

Did you consider something with the word Mint in it? Mint Communications? Mint Conditioned? etc?
