DC hair stylists

so after finding a stylist i really liked in july, i found out he left the salon :(  i also liked mark at bang salon metropole but i swear every time i've tried to make an appointment, he's not available.

i'd obviously prefer a salon in the district but if you absolutely love your stylist and their salon is metro accessible, i'm willing to travel. i have really thick, very frizz prone hair and somehow stylists can't seem to wrap their head around the fact that i don't want too many/too short layers.

Re: DC hair stylists

  • i have been going to Bobby at PR Partners Metro Center for more than a year now. i have a referral card for $10 off!
  • My new love is Chelsea at Roche Salon I Street near the Farraguts. I have frizz-prone hair as well and this style falls well even when I don't show it love. And I have a referral bonus as well.

  • Parlour Salon on U st is fantastic :) I see Rebecca, the owner, and she is amazing. I have yet to walk out of there with a bad haircut! :) The salon is about two blocks from the U St Metro (U and 15th)... it's a little walk, but still doable.

  • I go to Brittney at Bella Bethesda. It's definitely metro accessible with a short walk. I went to several stylists in DC before finding her. They have an awesome points program. You don't just get benefits for referring people, so I enjoy it.
  • I absolutely love Paola Camacho at Blondie's Salon in Dupont Circle. (She recently moved there from Corte Salon in U Street.)  Here's a C&P from my Yelp review:

I followed Paola Camacho here from Corte Salon, where I had been going for well over a year.

As I mentioned in my review for Corte Salon, I have thick, coarse hair that needs to be flat-ironed daily (i.e., high-maintenance routine for a low-maintenance look) and so, how my hair is cut is really important.  Once you're in the chair, Paola takes the time to understand how you'd like your hair cut and asks questions if it's not clear. I've been going to her for a while now, most recently at Blondie's, and I always walk out with the cut I want and always with a fantastic, bouncy blowout (with no flat-iron needed)!  I've had many great stylists before moving here and no one has ever been able to finish a cut, blow dry and style without a flat-iron. She really is a genius with a blow dryer and brush!  A haircut and blow dry with Paola will run you $85 -- well worth it IMO.  Just know though, Paola only cuts hair on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and only schedules Brazilian Blowouts on Wednesday.

The salon is spacious, the gal at reception is pleasant, and it's somewhat Metro-friendly (U Street or Dupont Circle).  Tips are cash only (although they may accept checks if the stylist is OK with it -- happened to overhear the receptionist ask for another client); but there is an ATM in the coffee shop next door (Jolt N Bolt/$2 transaction fee) if you need it.

  • thanks everyone! going to consider all the options and will let you know if i need a referral code.

mrs.erin: have you done the brazilian blowout? i am very seriously considering it for next spring to prevent the six months of bad hair days i'll inevitably have to deal with otherwise.
