Re: is this true? (unemployment)

  • I think it varies from state to state.  I know in NJ you can be eligible for unemployment benefits if you voluntarily leave your job but it depends on the circumstances and you will be penalized and unable to collect for a certain amount of time (usually 2-6 weeks).

  • It was for me going from DC to NC. Hopefully you can get it too...

  • Thanks everyone! California does it so that's great but do when i give my notice to quit, do i have to say anything about the unemployment then? or just wait until i get to DE to file?

  • Wait till you get to DE to file.. and make sure that you keep all of your papers from your current employer.. Unemployment asks for some documents from your last employer... Or actually, California does everything online so I'm not sure..  Just keep everything to be safe!!

  • I'm not sure if this matters, but you're not able to transfer within your company, right? When H and I were looking into getting stationed in DC, I know that I couldn't get unemployment because I work for Nordstrom and there are tons of those within the mileage they said my job had to be within from where H was gonna get stationed, so I could definitely transfer and wouldn't be out of a job, technically. If it was too far or there just wasn't an option for transfering, then you're good. Just wanted to point that out in case it is an option for you!
