My dad has a ring that he got a long time ago as a gift (long story) and decided he wants to just sell it. It's high quality gold from the middle east, with real and CZ diamonds in it, one it now missing (it's a flashy ring and he only wore it for fun, now it's not really wearable with the lost stone and no one will fix it because some are CZ). Basically, it would be best to sell it to one of those "cash for gold" places, but I was wondering if you all have any advice. The only thing I know so far is that he should get it appraised somewhere first and then sell it somewhere else (so you get a fair appraisal).

i don't know if it's "good advice" or not, but my family has been trading in gold for years (way before gold prices were rising...it was just common to do so)....we always brought it to vietnamese jewelers in chinatown, because my parents always said they were "the best".
if you have a vietnamese friend go with you to translate, you'll get an even better deal
