Hi :-) I come from a tropical area where temps are always in the 70s and up. I've traveled before to areas that were somewhat cool (40s to 50s) and I was good just wearing a jacket, heels/sandals and jeans.
What kind of temps can I expect in Seattle around the beginning of December? I might be doing some walking around the city to do some Xmas shopping, so what kind of clothes should I be prepared to bring? Can I still get away with wearing heels, jeans and a jacket? Or, should I prepare for wearing close toed shoes (like tennis shoes), sweaters, jeans with tights under them, etc.? Sorry - I'm an island girl and I don't want to be cold!
TIA!

open toe in december? you're crazy
jeans and a sweater with a jacket is fine. no need for tights under your jeans, but keep those toesies covered! it'll likely be wet!

LOL - Sorry, I am so used to having my toesies hanging freely in my sandals and wedges! I guess I'll definitely be investing in a pair of comfy boots or flats to keep them covered ;-)
I run around in December barefoot in heels, but not open toed! Then again, I'm from here and thrive in cold weather. I'd suggest a comfy pair of boots, and maybe a scarf as well with your jacket.
Be warned, in the off chance we get a freak snowstorm (that's Seattle speak for half an inch of snow), the city will more or less shut down.
Enjoy your time here! There is just nothing like walking through downtown at Christmas

Ditto Jenn - no exposed toes (or any part of the feet) outside in December! At least not if you plan on doing a fair amount of walking. One recommended way to dress in Seattle (especially if you plan to be outside a fair amount) is in layers, so have your jacket, maybe a sweater or two and 1 not-too-thick scarf. Basic gloves wouldn't hurt too. Then again, I'm kind of a wuss when it comes to being cold.
Oh yes, and don't forget a compact umbrella - if you'll be doing sightseeing, definitely need one just in case. It IS Seattle.

If you're used to the 70s and better, it's going to seem damp and chilly, lol. Agreeing with the others wrt closed-toe shoes (though closed-toe heels are probably fine); I wouldn't wear sandals in December... and most of the folks I know who do wear Berkies with socks, lol.
I will say -- the one thing that worries me about heels in December is: We have hills. Maybe not as much as San Francisco, but if it ices over and you're trying to walk up- or downhill in heels, you're at a greater risk of slipping.
My usual December getup is jeans/slacks (I don't own a lot of jeans), socks, tennis shoes, t-shirt, hoodie, and coat.
Maybe gloves if it's particularly chilly. Layers, like one of the PP mentioned, are always a good idea!
Be sure to check the weather before you come, too. NOAA is my go-to weather forecast. While it's probably going to be around 43F and wet, it could also be 30F and snowy/icy. Either way, though, it will give you a better idea of what to expect/pack for.
A scarf, a water resistant jacket and/or umbrella and gloves go a long way.

Thanks everyone for being sooo awesome and giving me great advice on my wardrobe choices. I'm looking forward to my upcoming visit to your city!
