I love lurking on this board and seeing everyone's great menu and entertaining ideas. It makes me so jealous though! I'd love to entertain, but we just moved to a new area and don't really know anyone. The closest family is three hours away, so "entertaining" would be for a whole weekend.
I would love to host a holiday, especially since we just bought our first house and have space to do it, but everyone is so set in their traditions it's hard to drag them away.
So for now I'll continue living vicariously through all of you other entertainers. Keep up the great work, I love reading about it!
Re: Lurker and jealous!
I know how you feel!
In 2009, we lived where we knew no one, but we had this huge house that was made for entertaining. Now we live in a house half the size, but near all our friends & family, and I'm constantly throwing parties and cramming everyone in lol.
And I'm the low lady on the totem pole for holidays. I won't get Tday or Christmas until somebody dies or I pop a kid out and put my foot down about schlepping said kid and all of said kid's crap over the river and through the woods
Man, that's crass to type out but it's so true! lol

This is us to a T. Most of my entertaining is made-up, meaning I either volunteer to host a shower or I just pick a day and plan something.
OP, you'll likely find lots of excuses for entertaining as you get settled in to your community and start making local friends. Or you might find yourself hosting out of town guests!

You will! It takes about a year to make new friends in a new town. If you try out a lot of recipes for you and DH now - you'll have your menus ready to go. Also... if you see an idea you like for an event - maybe clip it and put it in a note book for later.
Good Luck!
