Need DC lunch recommendation

I am going to be in DC tomorrow with a friend from OOT and we want to grab a late lunch somewhere that is near a metro (orange line is best).  He is arriving at 1, so I assume we won't get to lunch until 2, so it will be a late lunch.  I have celiac disease, so I need somewhere that does either burgers, mexican or chicken, since I can usually get those "plain enough" to be gluten free.  TIA.

Re: Need DC lunch recommendation

  • I don't think they have hot food, but my sister and I just went to Firehook last week and really enjoyed it.  They had sandwiches and salads that were delicious.  It's in the same building as Metro Center, which is on the orange, red, and blue lines.
Sarah (sarahelisabethm)'s book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)

  • How about Tonic, near GW.  It's a not too far walk from the Foggy Bottom stop. (orange/blue).  I went with someone who doesn't eat gluten, meat, or sugar and she had good luck there.  And their tater tots are aMAZing!
  • How much are you looking to spend?

I do like Tonic near GW.

  • hadn't thought about cost, but nothing too fancy.  Maybe $10-$20 each.

  • I bet Founding Farmers (http://www.wearefoundingfarmers.com) would have some good gluten-free options. It is located on Pennsylvania Ave, near Foggy Bottom/GW metro or Farragust West metro.

  • I have Celiac too. I like Port of Pireaus (McPherson), they have a deconstructed gyro that is super tasty.  There is also Roti, which has a gluten free menu that includes gluten free pita bread. Both places are pretty casual.

Wasabi, near Farragut West for sushi.

Corner Bakery (bunch of locations - I go to the one near McPherson) has some good options.

District of Pi near MetroCenter has gluten free pizza.

There is a mexican place in the food court near metro center (blanking on the name, but it is a Chipolte type place)

  • Fireworks Pizza, in the Courthouse Metro Plaza, has gluten free pizza. Not sure if it's too far from the city for you, but it's literally right outside the Metro station (very convenient). I have never tried the gluten free versions, but their regular pizza is awesome!
