So I know you're not supposed to put a kid in a car seat with a winter coat on, but are there any "documented cases" (i guess you could say) of someone being hurt because they were in an accident and wearing a winter coat? I wear my winter coat. If it's dangerous to wear them then why aren't we ALL being told to not wear a winter coat in the car while wearing a seat belt?
I watched the videos and don't put my kids in with puffy coats, but there's just something that doesn't connect quite right for me. It's not perfectly logical I guess you could say.
Yeah, the straps aren't as "tight" but they're still tight and should still keep a kid in. If you pull it tight, it's going to compress that jacket, right. It's not going to compress and send your kid flipping through the air in the event of an accident, right? It should already be compressed.
Why the f is this so hard for me to understand? I feel like an idiot.
Re: i'm really dumb. someone draw me a picture...
Well if you have a modern day car your seat belt will automatically lock in an accident.
From the video there is just a lot of wiggle room with a puffy coat. Lets say it's not just a fender bender but your car is upside down rolling down a hill. Your kid is then hanging there in that seat and if its somewhat lose maybe you didn't put the chest latch at the right spot etc. they could slip out.
