4 days with a 9 month old in Asia or the Middle East

Morning Everybody,

I need some opinions..  DH's company gives us x amount of dollars and two weeks for travel to our "point of origin" once a year so we are going home for Christmas  for about 10 days.  We thought would spend the other 4 on a little mini-break in one of the layover points on our trip on the way back since the flight is already paid for anyway.  We want the mini-break to be relaxing but also kinda interesting as well. Keeping in mind lil C will be 9 months when we travel we are also looking for someplace that is kinda stroller friendly.

So in your experience which of the places would be best: Doha, Dubai, Bangkok, or Tokyo?

We can get fights out of Bangladesh that go through all these places on our way back to the East Coast.

All opinions appreciated!

Re: 4 days with a 9 month old in Asia or the Middle East

  • Morning!

I haven't been to Bangkok or Tokyo, but I live in Doha, and have been to Dubai numerous times.

Both Dubai and Doha are super kid-friendly cities in my opinion, and they're both also super safe, which is a nice perk. Also, the weather will be great in Dec/Jan!

While I enjoy living in Doha, and think it would be a nice place to visit, Dubai is probably a more exciting destination with a lot more to do (Burj Khalifa, Ski Dubai, lots of American/UK stores, etc).

Let me know if you have any questions about things to do in Doha or Dubai. I've been there pretty often and could fill you in on a lot of options! Also, Risainthesky lives there, and will hopefully add her 2 cents as well.

  • I went to Bangkok as a little one, but dont' remember anything and that was probably almost 25 years ago, so I'm not much help there. I imagine it is quite different now. I've been to Tokyo and I don't know if it would be the best option for a kiddo, although it is amazingly clean. (Hopefully someone who has lived there might have more input).

I am with JennyBee on Doha/Dubai - Dubai has TONS to do and like she said, the weather will be absolutely gorgeous!

  • I truthfully haven't been to the other places, but nesting from Japan I'd vote: not Tokyo. I think you might have a more relaxing/enjoyable trip in Dubai or Doha!

  • I'd vote for Dubai, although I haven't been to any of the other places.  It's very kid friendly (some taxis even offer car seats for free), great weather, lots to do and it will all be very easy on you.  I had a friend visit me while I lived there who was traveling with an 8 month old and she didn't have any problems.

4 days is the perfect amount of time to see the major sites and still have some down time.

  • I absolutely loved Tokyo but we don't have kids and were there for a couple weeks. It was an amazing city but it's probably a bit much for 4 days with an infant. Haven't been to the other places yet but I've heard great things about Dubai.

  • Thanks for the tips! I am liking the idea of Dubai or Doha just because while I want to see all of those places, I didn't factor in that in Jan both of those places would be much nicer than say trying to visit in July.  Now just gotta get H to put in for the tickets!
