Germany

DH has decided to extend his time in Germany and will be filling out the command sponsorship paper work while he is deployed. So it looks like I'll be moving in the very near future, if everything goes accordingly. I guess its time to start downsizing, I don't know where to start.

  • With things you don't use?
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.

Most of the things I have get used or have sentimental value. I usually go through a huge cleaning frenzy every 6 months or so and get rid of items or cloths that dont get used. I guess I could start with my books and go from there.

  • Since we're right in the middle of getting shipments from 4 freaking locations after 4 years, I say get rid of it all :) I'm a but of a packrat, but h is full on hoarder in training. Get rid of clothing, sure, but the biggest thing I'm dealing with is power cords to things that don't exist and pounds and pounds if unnecessary paperwork. If I got rid of all that, my pita organizing would be cut in half.

Truth. OP, moving overseas doesn't require that you leave your life behind you in America. There are adaptors/transformers to use in Germany and at the minimum you'll be there a year (your DHs DEROS is mandatorily extended a year when he command sponsors a dep.) So you'll want to be comfortable and have your things.

  • Is the gov't paying to move your full HHG? I know this isn't always the case depending on how the amended orders are written.

  • DH changed his mind... again. So I dont know whats going to happen but hes not going to extend. Hes just going to wait till he comes down on orders. I think DH changes his mind more than the army. But in case the army does decide to keep him there and he wants me to join him I will definitely keep what y'all said in mind while downsizing.
