I need to stop..

checking my spot on the waitlist for housing. Seriously. It goes up and down. We aren't even PCSing until Jan. Which comes to my question how does our spot on the wait list go up? Ex. Going from 400 last week to 405 this week, then back to 398. Dh thinks im crazy for checking it so often but I want to be prepared if we are still high on the list with some off post options.

  • I don't trust the waitlist.  When we moved this July we were 50 on the waitlist when they offered us a house.  We started off really low and then kept getting bumped higher as time went on.

I hope you get the housing you're hoping for

  • You're not there and you were able to get on the list? Nice. When we PCS we've always been able to get on the list before getting there but our actual time doesn't start until my husband clears his unit at the previous duty station. Reasons for you going higher on the list would be people that have an earlier report date or they signed out of their last unit earlier, those coming from overseas(maybe just Korea) and home from deployment have priority for housing. Also I think if it's someones first duty station then their time backdates to when they started AIT, which could have been a year for some MOS. This is what I've been told by housing when I asked about the same thing,

I check our number every day to, but ours usually changes every day or two by at least 1 number. And the PP is correct, it'll definitely never get to zero before they call you with a house.

Same. We started at 190-something, got down to 105 and we were offered a house. But I feel ya on incessantly checking it, I did the same thing!

Yeah we were able because for the last almost 2 years we have been in limbo. Long story short DH was stationed in Hawaii, wanted to reclass. So went to San Antonio to school. The Army said I couldnt stay in Hawaii but I couldnt go to Bragg because it was more then 60 days before DHs report date. I moved back home. DH got down to San Antoino and they told him with his profile he couldnt go through the course. I moved down there on my own to wait for the Army to figure out what to do with him/us. We waited from Feb of 2010 until July 2011. When he was sent to OK to go through a new school and i moved back home again. This whole time our household goods have been in storage at Bragg because the Army wouldnt moved them, and we had to start paying storage because the Army wouldnt pay it anymore. Its been an intesresting 2 years. But thats how we have been on the list since Aug when he got his orders. We just got stuck in a loop hole, and no one knew what to do with us.
