S/O Breakfast, a Cereal-Related Poll

We got into a discussion about this in college, and it got pretty heated. People had very strong stances on this issue.

Re: S/O Breakfast, a Cereal-Related Poll

  • I don't like milk so no cereal for me.

  • I don't like to leave the milk, so I make sure I cover all the cereal with milk and leave a few wet cereal at the end, which I eat w/out milk.

  • Depends on the cereal.

Definitely.  For something sweet like Frosted Flakes or Golden Grahams, YUM!  For my usual Raisin Bran, the milk doesn't taste any different so I don't care to go after anything left after the cereal is gone.

  • Apparently, I'm in the minority here. I think it's freaking disgusting to drink warm milk with things floating in it. Ick! I can't even watch H do it, he has to warn me so I can turn my head and avert my eyes, or I will gag.

I never cared for cereal milk anyway, but I also had a traumatic experience where one of my brothers didn't finish the milk in his cereal bowl and lied about it and said it was mine, so my mother made me drink it. After I finished it, he admitted it was his. This was at least 20 years ago, and I still dry heave when I think about it.

i think it's gross too! and i'd still be pissed at my brother if he'd pulled a stunt like that. makes me glad i'm an only child!

Well, if you eat it fast enough, the milk is still cold. And I am anti-floaters, too, so I always eat all the cereal first.

But: like pp said, it depends on the cereal. I only do it with "sugar" cereals like Lucky Charms or Cocoa Puffs (which I rarely eat). Other cereals, I find it disgusting, and I make DH drink it for me.

  • if it was just a little and it wasn't cocoa krispies, i used to give the milk to our dog. she didn't mind if there were a few extra frosted flakes in the bowl.

  • If possible, I will pour a little more cereal into my bowl to eat with the remaining milk, so there isn't just milk leftover.

  • I'm another who it depends on the cereal.

  • Ugh this is such a debate in our house. DH is a strong advocate of drinking the milk (doesn't want to waste it) and I don't (eww). He occasionally takes to calling me out on my leftover milk at breakfast so I have now gotten to the point putting the absolute bare minimum amount of milk in the bowl to avoid the harassment

  • it definitely depends on the cereal. and I'd only do it in my own home in front of DH and kid(s)...never at someone else's house or in front of company ;-)

  • I don't. I don't really think it's gross, but I just don't do it. I'm pretty sure when we were kids, we were taught it was bad manners to drink out of our bowls. However, on the rare occasion when I have cocoa krispies, I do, because chocolate milk = yum!
  • i don't, but not because i'm grossed out as much as it's just bad table manners to drink out of your bowl.

i'm sure i did as a kid though.
