Beginners Sewing Machine

What is a great beginners sewing machine?  I haven't used a sewing machine since home economics class in 7th grade.  I would like to learn how to sew and don't want anything to complicated or expensive at first.

    don't go too basic, you don't want to out grow the machine too quickly. I have my mom's machine. I'm never giving it back!!! So, if you have a friend/family member who has one that is never used, you might want to ask to borrow it, and find out if you want to put the $ into getting a machine, and what you are looking for.

    I just want to echo the FAQ and suggest buying from a dealer again. Just last week I worried I was having to force the walking foot, so I took it back to the store to have them show me what I needed to do. I might have spent more than I would have for the same model online, but it is SO nice to have the in person support.

    Thanks!  I really appreciate all the feedback.  It has been over 25 years since I have touched a sewing machine, so it is a little intimidating.  I have found so many neat projects on Pinterest that I want to try and I will never know if I like sewing if I don't start somewhere.
