Whew! job news

So we had the big announcement via video at work today.  Someone likened it to a cross between LeBron James's decision special on ESPN and the Reaping in the Hunger Games.  The last month has been a crazy political whirlwind but I'll spare you the dirty details.

The really fantastic news is that no one is losing their job this year!  I'm still amazed that our agency head found a way to not lay anyone off (at least, for this year).  We will have some furlough days and I probably won't be promoted for a few years but I can deal with all that.  I get to keep my job.  My colleagues all keep their jobs too.  :-)  I can not tell you how relieved I am.  And Matt is too.  I think he's been feeling guilty about being in school full-time and not bringing in much income.

Oh yes, please!  If Matt hadn't had a final last night and a final tonight, we'd be breaking into a bottle.  Tomorrow night, we will!

  • That's wonderful!  The last place I worked went through something similar and I was really impressed with how they handled it, as well...they were able to save jobs and salaries at the chapter-level, by cutting back at the home office-level.  It was a huge morale booster, not to mention a huge relief.  It is nice to know with all the terrible business practices out there, some places are still trying to do the right thing when they can :)

  • So late, but just wanted to say that is awesome and I'm so glad that everything worked out and you get to stay at a place that makes you happy!
