American Horror Story? How creepy is it?

I have seen the previews and am really interested in trying to watch it...which is a mystery to me because I DO NOT do well with scary movies - I'm fine with gore and stuff, but anything that's paranormal or really creepy psychological type I don't do well with - I think it just creeps me out too much.

Last night I saw that episode 2 was on (I think it was episode 2?).  I watched about 15 minutes of it and felt myself getting sucked in.  I noticed that episode 1 is on Demand so I figure if I want to start from scratch I can watch it...but, here's my question...

How scary/creepy is it really?  I'm honestly not sure if I should let myself watch this show, for fear that I won't sleep for an entire month, as that's why I stay away from horror movies in the first place - ha.  Can someone give me some insight?  Thanks!

  • Episode 3 was on last night. The first 2 episodes were much more creepy and psychological than last night's episode.

Thanks - from what I saw last night it didn't seem too bad.

A little twisted, but not too bad...

    SPOILER...

I saw the part where it showed a glimpse of the past homeowners - the husband and his 'taxidermy' habit, them sitting at the dinner table arguing, and that they had a baby - then Vivien thinking she miscarried, and later the same woman from the past knocking on the door to view the house...that's when I decided maybe I should stop watching and start from the beginning...when that woman just disappeared.  So that's about all I've seen.

it's more psychological for sure. Not so much jump out and scare you. but for some reason i have been able to divorce myself from the scary stuff so I can go straight to bed without the lights on. lol

And that's where I might have problems.  The move the Butterfly Effect for instance was a lot for me.  The Shining - eesh!  Couldn't go anywhere with the lights off for weeks!

  • I'm not huge on that sort of stuff either, but I am HOOKED on this show!!! It is creepy/scary to me but it's just SO GOOD that it doesn't bother me.

  • It actually reminds me a LOT of The Shining, so you might not like it lol

  • Ditto everything everyone else has said. FYI, they are showing all the episodes starting with the Pilot on FX on Halloween.

  • I'm exactly like you described and I was done after the first episode. MH decided to watch it and I told him not while I'm up anymore.

  • Well, I tried episode 1 last night, got about 20 minutes into it and had to turn it off - thanks for the feedback, but I just can't do it!  I'm kind of disappointed I can't force myself through it because for some reason it really intrigues me, but I can't subject myself to weeks of not sleeping!
  • I like it.  It's definately creepy but I agree with pp nothing is really going to jump out at you.
