NSOR - Extra money?

Does anyone have any tips on how to make some extra money? I already work two jobs, roughly 60 hours a week, and I'm going to try to pick up an extra day at my PT job, but I was wondering if there is anything else I could do? I don't own much, so I can't really afford to sell anything on craigslist or ebay, and I'm not really sure what else to do? Money is really tight and we're trying to save for a trip to London/Amesterdam, and I haven't had a vacation in 10 years so it MUST happen ha.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated :)

  • If you have cable/internet/credit cards/etc you can call and try to renegotiate rates.

    Sorry that's all I got!

  • I do online surveys for cash.  There are plenty of sites you can sign up for, but the four I use most often are Opinion Outpost (which is great because it cashes out right to paypal with only a $20 cash out limit - this one is my favorite), Ispos Isay, Survey Head and Inbox Dollars.  You need to be pretty available because they will email you as surveys come up and they fill up quickly, and some of them can be kind of long/tedious, but this works for me since I sit in front of a computer all day for work anyway.

I would say I average about $120 - $150 extra per month doing this.  It's not a ton of money and it does take time, but every little bit helps!

  • Thank you so much for the tips!

I'm trying so hard to budget and re-budget and everything else under the sun. It's just so tricky!

Thank you thank you thank you :)

I will XP to MM :)

Do things with the bills you already have.  Some people don't think these make a world of a difference, but I can assure you, it does:

-Cut coupons.  And use them. I know I am guilty of cutting them, saving them from the weekly paper, but forgetting to actually use them.

-Turn your AC/Heat up/down 5* when you are not home.  My friend on FB just cut her bill in half (almost) by doing this and, shutting all lights when not in those rooms in your home.  Not leaving certain things plugged in (toaster oven, Keurig machine, etc.). If you have a home that you use "outside lights" for, don't leave them running all night, get a timer and set them for shorter times to be on.  Your electric bill will see a significant dip.

    - are you a Smart Phone user - call your company and see how you can make your plan cheaper.  I just called AT&T the other day b/c I updated the software on my iPhone (and most people I text are iPhone users too) and with their new iOS5, there is iMessage, so I don't pay for text minutes.  I was paying a monthly fee for unlimited text msgs, and I cut that out.

    - Don't eat out more than two meals a week.  Sounds minimal.  I do it weekly.  I cook for myself every meal/every day.  Keeps my menu "cleaner" and not full of high carbs and fats.  I save my two meals out for a night out with friends or a luncheon with co-workers.

-Don't buy more than you need every week at the grocery store.  Go to the store on a full stomach, and you will see you won't buy more.  Sounds silly.  I have a weekly budget for groceries of $65.00 and I never go past it.  Unless it is the "run" where I need TP, Paper Towels, then I budget for those, and I definitely wait till those items are on sale or I have a coupon for.

Again, these may sound trivial to some, but seriously look at your bank account and finances for the week/month and you will find many ways to cut these things down.  Also, post on Money Matters, they have a ton of other ideas.

    Good Luck

I agree with all of these tips!  If you post on MM, someone will probably tell you to set up a shower cam Stick out tongue
