Let's talk Switzerland

I want to book us a weekend in Switzerland for mid-November.  I'm on stimulation overload with looking into different options, so thought I'd ask here.

-I would like to take the train from the NL

-We don't really ski, but would give it a shot and would like fun things for the kiddo to do

-Only looking to stay about 3 nights

Any suggestions?

Re: Let's talk Switzerland

  • Do you want to spend time in the city or go up in the Alps?

I figure if your coming from the NL by train you will probably end up starting at Zurich, Geneva, or Basel.

I was going to suggest you visit Zurich and enjoy the city for the two days and then use the other day to take a day trip via train or tour to Mt. Titlis. Excet that they close down for maintenance from Nov. 7-25. It has a breathtaking view and they offer a nice little sledding park.

I know there are other places you could go for sledding too. But I don't know them off the to of my head.

  • Where in Switzerland? French, German or Italian speaking? City or countryside?

November isn't a high season for skiing, I'm not sure much will be opened.

This...if anything, it will be probably be glacier skiing only at that time of year. If you're really interested, try the higher elevations, but even December can be dicey for snow in a lot of areas.

The Adelboden area will have plenty of snow in November. They don't start opening all the lifts full time till December usually. But the weekends at the end of November might very well be opened.

Lux's idea of the kinder hotels might be nice if you want something not in a "big" city. I know Totziens family have been to one in Austria or Germany.
