Thoughts on the animals in Ohio?
I'm really pissed that they killed them all! They could have used a tranquilizer and waited for for a big cat rescue, zoo, or Busch Gardens to get them! They had not harmed any people. And with the Camel?? he would hurt someone? It makes me sick!

I'm sorry, but if Jack Hanna of all people is supporting the Sheriff, I think he gets a pass. Animals are killed every day just because. This at least was in the interest of public safety.
But did the camel really need to be shot? And the other animals had not harmed or been a threat to humans! And the monkey that is still missing? I guess these are domesticated animals, we don't live in Africa! These animals are used to humans and they did not harm one human before they were killed! It could have been done where the animals were tranqualized and moved to a zoo, or cat rescue!

Maybe, but maybe not. And YOU don't know how familiar or friendly these animals are with humans. Also, all of these animals, given the opportunity/circumstances, can be dangerous.
In an effort to contain public safety, the officers did what they felt was right at the time. They also don't carry tranq guns or equipment to disable massive, exotic animals. How would you feel if you and your neurotic dog were strolling down the street and a loose lion came by and chomped her to bits because it hadn't been fed in a week?
While I don't think the outcome was ideal, I can say with great certainty that the shiity little town I live in would have handled the situation the same. I would assume that most small towns don't have the resources or money to keep tranquilizers on hand. And it's not really safe for the public for wild animals to be roaming around with us humans, ya know.
Again, I think it's unfortunate and I feel bad for those animals. IMO the police were just doing their jobs to the best of their ability with what resources they did have.......well wait this is an assumption, I am not 100% sure this was a small town, just have a feeling.
What I have an even bigger issue with is that this nut had these animals to begin with. How did THAT happen???!

Yes, I heard the one primate had some sort of communicable disease (some say HepB, some say herpes). The yet-to-be-found monkey is assumed dead (eaten by another animal).
You guys are too soft-hearted sometimes.
Well, when I heard of wild animals on the loose I would not go for a walk with my DD or crazy dog! I do worry about foxes and coyotes, but never see one!
The SO had plenty of time to call people in to help with tranqulizing of the animals. One person actually did shot a tiger with a tranq and then a sheriff shot it!
Oh, and if any animal were attacking people , then yes, they should be killed, but this was not the case with these animals!
It can take up to 20mins for the meds to work!
