I know some of you will probably find this flameful..
I'm seeing all over facebook people up in arms that those exotic animals were shot. What exactly was the alternative there?! They are saying if they tranquilized them it would take 5-20 minutes for it to take effect.. and we're talking about doing this in the dark, with rain pouring down.
I'm an animal lover, and what happened was tragic - but I'm very
at all these bleeding hearts coming out and bashing the sheriffs dept. over this. Can you imagine how scared those guys were?! Or how you'd feel if you woke up to a FREAKING LION in your backyard?
I say hats off to them for getting the job done as quickly as they did. This could have been a MILLION times more tragic than it was.
Re: getting annoyed w/ peoples reactions to the animal killings
I agree. Poor sheriffs; can you imagine THAT call coming over your scanner? That would be a true "FML" moment.
I'm also interested in how he was able to have all these exotic, wild animals in the first place. Aren't there laws about this shizz?
I agree 100% about how it was handled--that was the only option. What upsets me is how this obviously crazy man was able to obtain and mistreat so many animals..THEN, he goes off the deep end and lets them all out to run all over and endanger everyone's lives, and offs himself....THAT is what I think is sad.
RE cracky's comment--from what I understand, the OH laws are pathetic at best (obviously after seeing this). He had been turned in for abuse etc before and for loose animals.
Yes, and they are apparently working to "fix" those laws now. Gee, ya think?
I read this guy had been charged with animal neglect not that long ago b/c he had a bunch of cow's & ox's die of starvation.. his defense was that he "couldnt make it up the hill to feed them."
Wow. It almost makes you wonder if these exotic animals werent better off dead than in his care.
love is for every her, love is for every him, love is for everyone
Even Jack Hanna was on ABC World News last night saying that although extremely haunting and tragic, it had to be done. Very sad. I can't believe it was so easy for someone to have so many dangerous, exotic animals.
While I feel bad that all the animals were killed and the whole story makes me sick (I do feel bad for the sheriff and the position that emergency personal, first responders, etc were put in), I was annoyed that they showed film of all the dead animals on television. Completley unnecessary IMO.
i know I couldnt be the only ahole who chuckled when they said "an escaped lion mauled one of the escaped monkeys"
Also - I bet these cops were a little alarmed, but can you imagine the convo at the bar later..."dude, I shot a friggin tiger today in the old ladies yard! a friggin tiger! I'll drink to that"
safari in the city y'all!
Also, I know for a fact that my dh would shoot anything that moved in our yard that day, complete with pics of our kid standing next to it. We are hillbillies at best!
It sucks for the critters, but I did have to laugh about it. C'mon, psycho owner cuts loose killer tigers before he offs himself...."your free, your free! Ruuuuun!"
way to think out your game plan buddy.
Hilarious!
I was a bit shaken thinking about it way over here in my house thousands of miles away, but if I was in Ohio, I would have found a gun somehow and helped out. So I could have pics like Tiff's.
