Disney Ladies I Need Your Expertise

I have a few questions:

1) At Epcot, does the "Soarin'" ride leave your feet dangling? I know this sounds like a silly question but I ask b/c I want to know if I will be okay wearing flip flops to the park or if I need something more secure on my feet.

2) Have any of you gone this time of year? It looks like it will be mid-70s but I can't decide if I will be too hot walking around the park in jeans.

3) If you stay on the property, does that mean you can get into the park an hour before they officially open or is that only on the extra magic hour days?

4) Did you bring a purse to hold your phone, money, etc. or did you just keep it all in your pockets?

I think that's it for now.

    I have a few questions:

    1) At Epcot, does the "Soarin'" ride leave your feet dangling? 2) Have any of you gone this time of year? It looks like it will be mid-70s but I can't decide if I will be too hot walking around the park in jeans. This is my favorite time of the year to go.  I generally wear yoga pants or something comfy like that because jeans aren't my favorite to wear all day.  I think you'll be ok in jeans though.

    3) If you stay on the property, does that mean you can get into the park an hour before they officially open or is that only on the extra magic hour days? You can only get in early or stay late on the extra magic hour days.  Take advantage of these though as they are great.  Just FYI, if the park has extra magic hours at night they don't kick everyone out, you just have to show your room key to get on any attractions.

    4) Did you bring a purse to hold your phone, money, etc. or did you just keep it all in your pockets?  I have small disney backpack thing that I use.  It's like nylon or something water resisitent.  It just has two side straps that you tighten to close and then put those over your shoulders.  It's big enough to carry a cell phone, money, even some small snacks but not heavy or irritating to carry all day long.

ETA - my bag is kinda like this but has a couple pockets on the front for easy access

  • I think Allison pretty much covered it.

It is actually popular to take off sandals and let your bare feet dangle on Soarin'. Some people say that you can "feel" the air/waves, etc. Whatever - I wear tennis shoes.

I wear jeans and if you are comfortable in jeans, you'll be fine - as long as you aren't going on any water rides. Walking around in soaked jeans sucks. You won't get soaked in Epcot unless you try though.

I don't normally carry a bag in WDW. I have a little ID holder that is just big enough to carry the necessary cards and I carry it in my pocket. I also carry my phone, hand sanitizer, pill box, and lip balm all in my pockets. I've done this so much, it's a Tetris-worthy feat. DH carries anything extra that I must have in his pockets.

On the "extra magic hours" (EMH) - a different park will open early or stay open late each day. You can find out which ones they are for any given day on the park hours calendar on Disney's website. If you go to Magic Kingdom, note that they do "close" (similar to EMH) early for the Halloween party on certain days.

When are you going? You may want to bring a hoodie for the evenings.

  • I'm from FL and I think jeans are hit or miss this time of year.  Right now the weather is considered cool, but next week it could be high 80s again.  I did the food and wine festival same time last year and was roasting.

I never really bring a purse, maybe a crossbody bag instead.

  • Allison answered the same as I would have!

Here's the EMH calendars. Change it to the days you'll be there, and hopefully you have Park Hopper tix so you can hit up the parks at different times

I do not like flip flops in the FL humidity. It can get ROUGH on your feet. If you do WDW right, you can average 7mi a DAY. That = tennis shoes to me! Also, Fast Pass Soarin if its over 20 min.

    2) Have any of you gone this time of year? It looks like it will be mid-70s but I can't decide if I will be too hot walking around the park in jeans. This is when we would usually go and it could be SUPER hot, or some years we'd be buying sweaters. You never really can tell. I always wear jeans there. Never had a problem. I don't ride the soggy bottom rides.

    3) If you stay on the property, does that mean you can get into the park an hour before they officially open or is that only on the extra magic hour days? see link above. We usually close thatbitch DOWN. We are those ppl there at 2AM. Yarp.

    4) Did you bring a purse to hold your phone, money, etc. or did you just keep it all in your pockets? I carry a backpack. Its the one in all the WDW photos. Its my usual go-to in the parks. I brought a mickey shoulder bag this year as well for the nights we'd go to Downtown or out to dinner. It has a sparkly Mickey on it. Yes

I think that's it for now.

HTH! I lovvvvvvvvve Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. I'm SO bummed I missed it this year.

  • Thanks for clearing things up ladies! We will only be there for one day so we are meeting friends at Epcot for the Food and Wine Fest.
