Hi ladies. I know I haven't been around in a while but I was hoping someone can rec a place for me. We live in Odenton. We'll be going out of town on Saturday. We'll be leaving early in the morning and we'll probably be returning around midnight. We are considering boarding Bailey, she's an 8 month old pittie mix. I have a friend that could pick her up from my house and drop her off (since we'll be leaving before anywhere is open). So far, I've looked into Camp Bow Wow in Columbia and Cozy Canine Camp in Crownsville. Have any of you ladies used either of these, or do you have any others you could recommend in the area? TIA!
Re: Boarding/Day Camp Recs
The Crownsville one is a decent facility, but it's very close to a main road.....For some reasom I am too psychotic about my dogs escaping to leave them there.
Dogwood Acres in Davidsonville is pretty nice.
I have a dog sitter out of Annapolis who stays at my house. She is wonderful. Let me know if you want her contact info. She's the only person I trust with my pooches. At the very least she can stop by your house a few times during the day to take your dog out.
We have used Bow Wow a few times. We like day camp there, but not the overnight as much. The owner is not the nicest of men and he seems to be the one there overnight. You have to go through an interview process that involves a day at camp to get approved. So, if you are trying to take your pup Saturday you would need to schedule your "interview" day soon.
However, it's not like our dog has had any issues or anything there. They just don't give us the warm and fuzzies. For any extended period of time we take him to Reisterstown Boarding Kennels.
We toured Cozy Canine Camp and I don't remember why (it was a few years ago) but I think we decided we didn't like it very much...I think a dog trainer friend of mine mentioned something bad about it, but I can't recall. Sorry that's really vauge, lol, it's just been awhile.
We take Phoebe to Happy Tails for doggie daycare in Crownsville, but I don't know anything about their boarding policies.
huh...I could have sworn i responded to this.
anyway, to retype since apparently TN ate it, I've used both dogwood acres and beechnut kennels - both in edgewater on 214 and liked both very much. I prefer Beechnut. Dogwood is fancier, but they've changed their policies and boarding prices no longer automatically include playtime. Beechnut inludes tons of playtime as long as your dog is dog-friendly, and private playtime several times a day of they aren't.
My pooch has come home from both places exhausted but cheerful and healthy. Unlike the very ill-advised time I took my previous pup to Noah's Ark in millersville and she peed on the floor the second we brough her home and was very jumpy the rest of the day.
(this was pre-TN for me and I didn't have anybody ask for recommendations. Don't go there)
My Goodness...another food blog. Featuring: Macarons from a old post with a photo taken by my mom for a break from my crappy food photos!
Ditto this! I have heard horror stories about that place after I toured it myself and was disgusted with them. I posted a long review on here a while ago but basically it's so dirty, they had a bulldog that was in clear heat exhaustion on a 95 degree day (he should never have been out there) outside for playtime and he looked so miserable and uncomfortable, then the kicker was where they wanted to put Spike and Piglet. I asked if they could share a room, both had never been boarded and stress when they even stay at my moms, and they said they had a great room for them. The room was MAYBE 4x5. I sat there stunned, I reminded the girl that my dogs were both ~75lbs and she said "yup! they'll do great here!" I just walked out.
I have never used Dogwood but hear really great things about it.
Ugggh I remember you saying this and I have only ever heard bad things since then. We used to go to the vet there and even though she was alright, I figured any vet that associated themselves w/ this place wasn't a good fit for us. Yikes.
