I want our family to start going to church again on a semi-regular basis. The specific religion isn't important to me, as long as it's Christian. More important is finding a place with a pastor I like, sermons that move me, and a young-ish, active congregation. It has to be family friendly -- we have 2 small kids who we want to be able to particiapte. I don't want a place that the "family-friendliness" is sending the kids to the nursery to play. Ideally, I'd like there to be a specific children's service... where the kids are involved for part, and then maybe go off to do some sort of activity related to the topic of the day. We are in the Burke/Annandale/N Springfield area, and would ideally like somewhere close by.
Any suggestions?
Re: Young, family friendly church recommendations?
We go to one in Alexandria we really love. Not sure if that is too far, but on a Sunday morning, I think that would only be 20 mins? (new to area..)
There are lots of options for the kids at the church. They have their own service on Wednesday nights, and Sunday mornings. There are also classes they can go to if you want. Children's Church is called praise connection.

We like the church because there are so many young people. The majority of the church are couples with children. A lot of the activities are either missions trips or family events. This sunday is a family festival if you want to check it out
Our church, Grace Church of Alexandria, fits most of your description. We're a newer, Bible-centered church that meets in a school in the West End. A good portion of our members are in their 30s. We don't have a separate children's service, but there is child care, and I know they teach a Gospel lesson. Since it's a younger congregation, all of the children are pretty small- I think that oldest is like 4.
