Outdoorsy folks

Opinion! Would you do a Marmot or Canada Goose jacket?  The most important things for me are:

- WaterPROOF (not water resistant. It rains a lot in winter here)

- Wind resistant or proof

- Warm!

- Thigh length

I have to be outside a lot with Lucy and with going to work on bike. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Re: Outdoorsy folks

  • Those both look like great choices! From my experience, Marmot gear tends to have a pretty stylish, cute fit as outdoor gear goes, so I would probably go with that one. I also like that it sounds like you can remove just the fur trim from the hood of the Marmot one which might make it look more reasonable in late fall and early winter.

  • I am not at all outdoorsy and know nothing of those clothes, but I wanted to tell you that I LOVE the expression on Lucy's face. Your dog is freakin' adorable! :)
  • Have you considered Jack Wolfskin? It's a German brand, it costs less than the above brands but makes some great jackets!

  • I haven't considered Jack Wolfskin-- Haven't heard of it before. :)  I think my SIL is going to ship this over for me, so I am ok paying dollars since the SEK conversion is still pretty good. :)

Yeah, I think I might just go with the Marmot.

Thanks Blue! She's awesome. I love her to bits.

  • Hi Snippy, I have a Marmot water-resistant jacket and also a sleeping bag from them, and I've been very happy with the quality of both. I don't own any Canada Goose-branded items, though, so I can't offer a comparative perspective there.

It sounds like you've made up your mind to go with waterproof, but I still found this link helpful on the differences and also care of these types of products: http://www.millets.co.uk/ed/how-does-it-all-work.html.

Although I have to say, when I was debating on wp vs wr, I had an outdoor store saleman walking around the store and flinging water on the jackets to show me the difference. He said, 'This is my favorite thing to show people.' Amusing and memorable!

  • La, that's awesome!  I'll take a look at that article-- thanks!

The problem for me is, that it can rain SOOO much here, and I don't want to be caught out with only resistant.  Even in winter, we can get heavy, heavy downpours.

Absolutely! I agree that a waterproof shell would be better for you if you're cycling through a downpour.
