I finally finished up my toast for my sister's wedding in November. My Mom's first impression brought tears to her eyes, so hopefully that's a good sign that I said enough sweet things ![]()
AND I finally decided on what to get them for a wedding present. I picked out a large roasting pan and electronic / wireless meat thermometer from their registry. I mentioned in the card that I hoped this gift would come in handy when preparing all the holiday dinners our families would share together in the future.
For my more personal gift, I also got them two of these pretty peacock plates. http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=527210&trackingCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results&cmexplore=&PseudoMasterProdID=531776&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results
Their wedding has a peacock theme, so these special plates are in honor of that and so they have special "anniversary" plates to celebrate the 18ths of every month.
When registering for our wedding, the woman BB&B said she and her hubby always eat dinner on their china for their wedding anniversary date every month, even if its pizza. So, that totally sold me! The china makes the day special and it gets used. I'm a sucker for celebrating the little things! After our wedding when we had to come back to Belgium, I was bummed about not having our china to use for this. DH and I picked out two special plates and we do eat on them every 16th. I think it's fun to break out the "anniversary" plates, hopefully my sister and new brother-in-law do to!
Re: Finally Decided ... Thursday Good News!
Aww, what a nice idea!
Oooh, my sister just asked me yesterday if I could make a toast at her wedding in November. I have never done this before and am quite nervous. How did you get ideas of what to say? What sorts of things do you say for wedding toasts? I don't know the groom very well, so I'm kind of lost here.
Any tips will be greatly appreciated!
My BFF gave an awesome speech at my wedding. She talked about funny stories that had everyone dying and how lucky I was to find someone to share future funny experiences about. XH's BFF did something similar--how they knew each other years ago, the crazy stuff they did together and how he's happy to see someone who is willing to tolerate XH and spend life with him (oops, I guess that didn't happen after all!)
You can make it anything but drawing from personal experience is a good start. Talk about what you know about your sister and it should come easily.
I'm pretty nervous too, but I am thinking a glass of wine before hand might calm my nerves and practice, practice, practice. I won't memorize it but I want the words to be super familiar to me.
First I started with a flow of consciousness - just kind typing whatever came into mind that might be nice to hear on a wedding day. The couple is perfect for each other. You're so happy they found each other bc he makes her so happy, treats her right, etc. This website helped get the ball rolling http://quotations.about.com/od/weddingtoasts/a/wedding7.htm

If you have any stories about the first time you met the groom, or about you and your sister talking about weddings when you were little that would be good. I included a paragraph just about my sister - main idea was 1) she was the BEST part of my childhood 2) I'm lucky to have a sister like her 3) She's an inspiration and good role model to me. etc.

Thank you! You've given me great ideas (I'm starting to feel a bit better about having accepted to do it)
Sorry for stealing your post Elisa. I couldn't sleep all last night thinking about it and it was such a strange coincidence that today someone brought up that very topic! Thanks again
