a disco themed bachelorette party?

So, J's cousin is getting married.  Gabby is the flower girl.  Lord help me, they are getting married at St. Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter (ya know, the iconic cathedral that sorta signifies the quarter).  It's big, and it will be scary for a two year old.  I think I need to take her there before the big day to  practice walking down the aisle.  ANYWAY!

The bachelorette party is coming up and I got FB message explaining that it will be a disco themed party.  WTF?  We are expected to dress the part.  And of course it will be in the Quarter, so I'm sure we will be parading down Bourbon St.

So IF I manage to get away for the night (and actually leave Genna, I mean...) I need a costume.  Help!  It will probably be somewhat chilly so I'd like to avoid the short skirt/disco/hippy whatev outfit if I can.  Would leggins or tights work with that tho?

Like say this dress:  http://www.halloweencostumes.com/sexy-disco-costume.html with white tights maybe?    I wouldn't wear those boots... just some other form of platform shoe.

Good god, I cannot even believe I am thinking of participating in this!

  • I think leggings with the dress would be find. You could wear wedges instead of the boots.

You could also just wear flared jeans if you're more comfortable in that.

  • Ditto what Karebear said.  The dress would be cute, but flared jeans would be too!
  • That dress would be good, but when I think 70's disco, super flared bell bottoms come to mind.  Think Sonny and Cher.  I would hit some thrift stores or vintage shops if you have the time.  Watch "Dazed and Confused" or the later episodes of "The Brady Bunch" (or The Brady Bunch movie, for that matter) for inspiration.

Gabby will make an adorable flower girl!  Good idea to take her to the church beforehand to acquaint her with the space.

ETA: And lots of blue eyeshadow, and super long fake lashes!

I'm with koko on all of the above! If you could manage to get Gabby there more than once that would be even better.

  • You can also do a 70's inspired jumpsuit.
