Have you ever seen these here, I can't find one anywhere. I like to fall asleep on them in the winter...my aching hips from the cold. Yuk.

Re: NL Ladies..heating pads?
When we were living in Canada I made a heating pad from an old towel. Just fill it with rice, buckwheat, beans....anything like that, heat it in the microwave for 3-5 minutes and enjoy for a few hours! It was lovely to use while I sat at my desk and when I got into bed. Though DH hated it because the smell of warm rice is strong. I threw teabags in with it to try and improve the smell but it didn't change much.
You can also do this in an old cotton sock. Fill and tie the end!
You can add a bit of lavender to help with the smell of the rice.
I'm a non-typical international Nestie (and a lurker on this board): I am a Dutch citizen who is married to a Canadian and lives in Canada. I think most people here are US citizens who moved abroad.
I had to look up what you meant by "heating pad". I think it resembles this strongly: http://online.kruidvat.nl/product/65051/Elektrischeonderdeken.html?token=-1 .
It's called a "elektrische deken". It is bigger than the "heating pads" I found while googling though. Yours looks more like a "warmtekussen". http://www.kieskeurig.nl/warmtekussen There are probably physical stores selling these too, perhaps you need to find one of those stores that sell medical equipment, maybe pharmacies have them. Of course you could also order online.
Thanks Resie, you should post more often.
I'm sure you get a kick out of some of our "American" posts
Yes and no. I am still getting adjusted to everything that's different between NL and Canada. I don't know how to hang up a light bulb here and my husband's university life differs vastly from my experience in NL back when I was a student.
I knew already Canada and the USA were not exactly interchangable, but by reading (and posting) here, I appreciate how similar and yet how different they are!
Agreed with Resie, warmtekussen for a small heating pad - they have 'em at Kruidvat, Etos, de Tuinen and such.
Also a rubber 'kruik' (rubber, flexible, almost rectangular large hot water bottle) is great. Also at Kruidvat or Etos. I usually use the rubber kruik with a thin towel around it when my back or kidneys hurt or I have insane cramps. Works wonders for me. Also available at Kruidvat or Etos.
My food blog
What I'm looking forward to in 2012:
Eating our way through (northern) Italy on vacation
