Pumpkins in MD?

Where the heck do I get pumpkins?

I bought some last year at Hawkins fruit stand or whatever it's called on Knowles Ave and paid almost $35 for 2 pumpkins the size of cantaloupes. Indifferent

I haven't seen any decent sized ones at the grocery stores.  I'm wiling to travel outside Moco.  Is that place behind Toys R Us on Rockville Pike decent?  I forget what it's called... Pablos?

Re: Pumpkins in MD?

  • There have been some good ones at the Takoma Park Farmers Market. That's where we got ours.
  • If you want the whole pumpkin experience, try Butler's Orchard in Germantown.

  • I think the Whole Foods in DTSS is selling pumpkins for $5 each. I may get one there if I don't have time to go to a real pumpkin patch.

  • We go to Larriland.  We paid 69 cents a pound for our pumpkin and I got to rip it right off the vine.  You basically want to go up Georgia Ave, turn left on 108, and head to Laytonsville to get there.
  • We got ours at Clark's Elioak Farm in Ellicott City... it was so cute there!

Do they still do the Farmer's Market at the Fenton Street Market on Saturday's in DTSS?  I'm going to head down there on Saturday, I'll let you know if I see any.

Also, I think Country Boy on Randolph right as you turn off of Georgia sells them - that's where my neighbor always gets hers.

  • If you go the farmers market route we usually skip the Kensington farmers market and go to the Olney farmers market on Sunday instead.
  • If you don't care where they are sourced, try your grocery store or Trader Joe's.  All the ones by me have big ones for $5-6.
  • We are going to Homestead Farm this weekend but they have said in their emails they only have medium and small pumpkins due to the rain/weather this year.  For us that is great because I only want the kids to have small ones (guess who gets to carry them).
