I'm going back and forth on getting one this year. Our work is offering them for free today and my doctor encouraged me and DH to get one this year in case we get pregnant, since I would need to get one anyway. I've never had one and I've never had the flu *knock on wood* and I always hear the stories that once you get it, you are more likely to get it... So...
Do you get a flu shot:

Re: Flu Shots?
Kirk and I got them 2 weeks ago.
We have to get them because FIL is less than 5 years in remission from head and neck cancer, so anyone who is going to be around him for more than 24 hours is supposed to get one.
Stand up for something you believe in.
I used to get them as a kid and ALWAYS got sick. When I started to date Mark, he suggested I get one because he has an autoimmune deficiency. I got one at work this year and will continue to get one since Charlotte is too little for one.
I normally don't, but I was basically forced to by my OB this year since I'm pregnant.
Usually whenever I get it, I end up getting the flu anyway -- yes, I know you can't actually get the flu from the shot itself.
I always hear the stories that once you get it, you are more likely to get it. -- This isn't true. The shot takes 2 weeks to take effect, so if you were already exposed to the virus before you had the shot, you'll probably still get sick.
This happened to me too. I never usually get them... I feel like I'm pretty healthy and take really good care to keep clean after using public things and staying away from sickies. I have had a really good immune system during this pregnancy, I knew a lot of people who were sick and I never got it *knock on wood*. But now Baby B and I are flu-immune and I can't really complain about that.
However, my nurse did say 'now don't let your husband sneeze on you!' and i was like... well isnt that what the shot is for? So if he does sneeze on me, I'm good to go? Either way, this band-aid has been on my arm for 2 days and has no signs of slowing down... thats industrial strength hospital band-aid for ya.

The first time I got one was last yr when I was pregnant. I went ahead and got one again this yr to be safe. Teaghan also got hers a few weeks ago, I had to deal with a sick baby once and it was miserable I can't even imagine how she would be with the flu.
If you are TTC I would say yes get one just on the basis it protects from H1N1 which can be deadly to pregnant women.
