How to glue felt to felt?

So I made DS a Halloween costume (a miracle in and of itself since I am so crafty-challenged).

The problem I'm having is that the details are felt and so is the background of the costume. I used fabric glue and it just seeped into the felt and this morning everything was barely sticking.

So what do I use to glue felt to felt?

Thanks!

Re: How to glue felt to felt?

  • I've used the "best glue ever" for my barrettes before and that worked well.  I used clothes pins to keep pressure on the two objects so maybe some books or heavy items would help.

  • You could try heat and bond too. All you have to do is iron it together to "activate" it.

  • I used hot glue when gluing felt together, but I used some embroidery floss and needle to make sure it was extra secure.

I used heat and bond for DD's halloween costume from last year. It was an owl (the one on Martha's website) and the wings were 4 layers and I used heat and bond for those and the feathers on the chest and they held up great.

Um, I love that costume and wish I had one in my size.

I got the idea/instructions from this site, but I don't sew besides a basic line stitch. So made the pattern from paper, laid it on felt and cut out 2 identical felt shapes. I sewed a line stitch to keep them together, then at the last minute turned them inside-out (like a pillow) and stuffed it with the only thing I had (tissue paper) and then sewed it closed. The details are all felt, too. I didn't do a back part or anything. I was intending to pin it to the front of a brown sweatshirt, but we tried that this morning and it was a no-go. I have to figure out how to loosely hang it around his neck--I need it to freely move from side to side since he isn't walking and we'll carry him.

DD wanted to be Princess Peach (store-bought) for Halloween and wanted DS to coordinate. DS *hates* hats so Mario, Luigi, and Toad (the other Super Mario costumes I could find) were all out. I made this for him, and DH and I are going to be Luigi and Mario.

  • I like hot glue, but that's because I use my hot glue gun more than my hair dryer.
