Re: Obama is announcing all US troops to be withdrawn from Iraq

  • That's interesting, he's doing what he said he would do. ;-) Sorry, I couldn't resist being a smart ass. So many nay-sayers (dems especially) are complaining that he hasn't done what he said he would do.  He said 2012 and it's almost 2012!

ETA: With my smart assness aside, I'm very happy to see this happening. However, I am concerned about the troops upon their arrival home. I hope we are equipped to provide them with the help, support, and jobs they'll need. Maybe since we won't be spending as much on war, we can actually funnel some money to job growth.

    My first thoughts as well.

  • I am not as up to speed on politics/military as I should be, and I fully admit this. However, it seems to me that lately I hear more about fatalities and troops being deployed to Afghanistan and other countries.  So while I think that it is great that the troops we have in Iraq will be returning, it seems like such a small drop in the bucket at this point.  What about all of the other troops???

Same here. My sister-in-law (my older, half-brother's wife) was just deployed to Afghanistan a few weeks ago, and one of my little brothers leaves the week after Thanksgiving. They are supposed to be there for a year. And Jill's hubby is going soon, too, right? Wouldn't it be nice to have THEM home, too?

I think this is great news, but come on. Let's get out of Afghanistan, too.
