I spent the last 2 days at the Working Mother Media Work Life Congress held here in NYC. I picked up a lot of good information (I'll be working on a blog post this weekend with info from the conference - so watch for it), but one important fact I learned last night that I wanted to share is that we are one of 3 countries in the world that don't mandate paid maternity leave. I was shocked when I heard that only 3 countries in the world don't mandate it. To try and do something about it, Working Mother Magazine has partnered with the National Partnership for Women & Families to start an online petition to Congress. They are asking for paid parental leave to be universally available to U.S. workers by 2015.
Below is the link to the online petition as well as an article from Working Mother. (and no they didn't ask me to do this. lol)
I posted this on my FB wall too so feel free to share the link & pass it around to have anyone else sign the petition. Maybe we can actually get Congress to listen!!

I was very lucky, I work for a small company but they paid for my maternity leave. But, I was also lucky to have people before me who set the precedent.
signed.
