Opinions in regards to following up

Had a first interview on 9/28.

Second interview on 10/12. Ran into the manager on the way out of the second interview and she mentioned that she wanted to bring me back to "talk" with her and the other originial interviewer. Also asked me if I was offered the position, when would I be able to start.

Got a phone call from HR lady on 10/13 telling me she was going to be out of the office on 10/14 so "not to worry" about not hearing from her and that she would definitely be in touch mid to late next week (i.e by the end of today). I mentioned that manager wanted to bring me back a third time and HR lady said that other orginial interviewer was going to be out of the office a lot this week so meeting prob wouldn't happen.

I called the manager on 10/19 to give her an update about some of my credentials (requirement of the job) and just left her a message.

And....crickets. Still haven't heard anything. My friend works for this agency and said that they are slow at times. Yes, I know there are still 3.5 hours left in the business day today. However, if I don't hear from them by the end of today, when would it be appropriate to call them?

ETA: I also contacted one of my references and she wasn't contacted for a reference check. As previously mentioned my friend works for this company and therefore I did write her name down on the app.

Re: Opinions in regards to following up

  • She said "not to worry" and she'll contact you, so I'd stay calm. Things come up, maybe she had a family emergency and isn't in the office or something came up at the office that she is busy working on... I'd wait til Tuesday or Wednesday and then follow up.
  • Id follow up w HR lady on Monday or Tues. Give her until past when she said youd hear from her (today). Just say youre following up. Im in recruiting, not HR though, so im curious to see if others agree. Dont stress, companies often move slow but it doesnt necessarily mean theyre not interested, esp after what you friend said ab them being slow. Sorry for fornatting, iphone :P

This.  I'd probably wait until Wednesday.

This as well. The company I'm at now, I had my first interview on 8/22. I got the offer later on 10/3.... basically it took 6 weeks from the first interview to the offer, and when I got the offer, they didn't tell me who and where I was supposed to go until the Friday before I started.

Sometimes it takes a long time!

I swim because I'm too damned sexy for a sport that requires real clothing.
  • Give them time.  The manager and HR may have crossed vacation days.  I know I'm not allowed to move on scheduling an interview based on the word of the candidate.  I'd say give them until Wednesday and then follow up.  They will both have some things to catch up on and this position may not be a priority.
  • Thanks all! I will wait until Wednesday and follow up if I haven't heard by then.

Until then, I will go back to biting my nails haha
