New car question....

...if you had been looking for a new vehicle for quite a while and you knew exactly what you wanted, would leather be a deal breaker for you?

Finally found the exact vehicle that I want (it actually has more bells & whistles than were on my list) but it isn't leather.

Re: New car question....

  • Haha, I'm totally the other way. I was thinking if it was leather, it would probably be a deal breaker for me. I do not want leather, too hot in summer, too cold in winter.
  • After being spoiled with leather heated seats... not leather. NO way! :)
  • I used to have cloth and now have leather. I thought I'd hate it but I actually love it. If you spill it is easy to clean and doesn't stain (I spilled a blizzard once on my cloth seats). I would just make sure you have seat warmers for winter and light interior. Mine is a beige/tan. I would never get black. It does get hot in the summer but not too bad.

Hmm, probably would not be a dealbreaker.

We didn't go searching for leather; it was just a bonus our car came with it.  The second I drove it away from the lot, though, I said to myself, "I'm never not driving a car w/o leather again!"

Now give me the deets on the car!  (BBM, please!)

  • VW makes heated cloth seats :)
  • Yes. I love leather-so much easier to clean.

  • I'm actually not a huge fan of leather seats.  I do love the heated seats in our Jetta...but they're SO hot in the Summer.  So, to me, it wouldn't be a deal breaker.  :)

Edit:  Guess my opinion doesn't really matter, since I don't have kids.  ;)

  • Yep. No leather = no deal

  • With kiddos....leather a deal breaker.

    Without kiddos.....indifferent.

But I do love my heated and cooled seats in my new car.  Cant imagine being without now.

    Good luck!

  • If the car was an amazing deal I could possibly live without leather but I do love it a lot!

  • little h gets car sick..... I had to rug doctor the cloth seats in dh's car.   not a good situation.

leather gets hot and sticky in the summer

not a deal breaker for me

  • I'd rather have cloth, so leather isn't a deal breaker for me.

Cloth may be harder to clean with a kid, but I'd assume a good detailing could get almost anything out, so as long as it had everything else you were looking for, I'd go for it.

  • My Explorer was leather and I hated it. With 5 kids one would think it was better but the seats were constantly stick, too hot or cold depending on the season and definitely ruined from years of car seats on them
  • I love the leather in my new car and thought I would hate it prior to buying it. It's dark grey, and I've had no issues with the car being ungodly hot and I had it in Oklahoma for a week when the temps were 110+ everyday. Granted my windows are tinted but still.

How long do you plan to keep the car? Have you driven it with the cloth? For mine the leather is way more comfortable than cloth.

  • For me, maybe a deal breaker. I'm not gonna lie... I chaperoned Tommy's preschool class the other day on a field trip and one of the kids I drove had an accident in my car. I have never been so glad in my life to have leather seats.

  • I love the heated leather seats in my car. My interior is black, but I have tinted windows, so it doesn't get too hot. Plus, I have remote start which means I can start it before getting in and it pre-cools!
