what's your favorite cake?
DH's birthday is Monday. I've asked him for a week to tell me what kind of cake he wants me to make and he keeps saying "I don't care". If I ask him again and I get the same answer, I'll punch him.
So in the interest of saving my marriage, what's your favorite kind of cake? Bonus points for easy-ish, I'll need to make it on Monday. It also doesn't have to be a traditional birthday kind of cake. We don't discriminate against cakes in this house
Re: what's your favorite cake?
Strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting or a lemon cake with either a lemon frosting or buttercream.
All of the different answers here will proabably frustrate you even more! lol.
My all time favorite is Cassata cake. It's not very well known down here, I am from Cleveland though. It's basically a white or yellow sponge cake and the middle is filled with strawberries and custard. I have never made it, so I wouldn't know how long it would take.
So Tasty, So Yummy
Rum bundt with a rum butter glaze, or chocolate sour cream cake with cream cheese icing. DH loves the rum bundt. It's easy and doesn't require any finesse with frosting.

That is my most favorite cake in the whole world! I'm from Detroit and that's always what my birthday cake was. We haven't been able to find one down here though that was a reasonable price, the last time I found one it was $80.
Have you tried Arandas Bakery? I don't know if it was custard or just a thick cream but they made a cake like that for a party I went to. It was sooooo delicious!

I haven't checked them out. But my birthday is the weekend after we move home, so I'm demanding a cassata cake and a trip to my favorite restaurant.
DH is getting a dulce de leche cake with caramel frosting.
classic white wedding cake... white cake with sugary white buttercream icing.
second runner up is yellow cake with buttercream icing
third runner up is yellow cake with chocolate icing
or, if we arent talking home made... Cookie Company Cookie Cake with lots of white icing.
i'm so boring.
I don't have a favorite; if you put any kind of cake in front of me I'm probably going to eat it.
H's favorite is carrot w/ cream cheese icing.
Now I want cake! Lots of it, pretty much every flavor listed above.
And thanks to the other post, I want it served on fine china.
$80!!! No way! We always had it for my birthday and everytime I visit home I try and get a slice. We even had cassata cake for our wedding cake, it's so good.
