Hi ladies,
What do you use to cut your fabric? So far I just use my fabric scissors and lay my projects out on the floor but I'm working with stretchy costume fur right now and am having a hard time pinning and cutting. Do you use a cutting mat and rotary cutter? I always imagined those were mostly for quilters. How do they do on curved lines? I've got to spend my 50% off coupons at Hancock and Joann's this weekend;)...
Thanks!

Re: Sewers - Cutting Tools
Oh, definitely invest in a rotary cutter, mat and clear ruler. I don't quilt, I mainly sew clothing for the kids and some for myself- but, they're the way to go. A smaller diameter cutter works great for curves, even tight curves. I only use scissors to cut out dinky things- like parts for small stuffed toys. It's SO speedy- and almost necessary for the stretchy knits and thin/drapey fabrics I work with the most.

I rarely use scissors for cutting big pieces. I have a big and a small Olfa cutter and a clear ruler.
I use scissors when making appliques and I have a big pair (to cut the pieces apart) and small ones (for details). Which reminds me I need to either get a new pair of tiny scissors or resharpen these.

I guess I'm weird because I do not love rotary cutters - I have 2 Olfas and 1 Fiskars, but I prefer using my spring loaded sewing scissors by far.
I have tried and tried to see the magic of the rotary cutters, but every time I give up and switch back to the scissors. I guess I feel like I have more control.
I do use a clear ruler and a cutting mat (I have a mid-sized mat) if the cuts I'm making are fairly small. I also cheat and draw a line with pencil and just cut along the line sometimes
I finally got a 24x36 mat the last time they went on sale. I love it so much more. I always felt like I needed just a few more inches on the smaller one.
