NT scan - Interesting experience

Well, the NT scan did not go as planned.  Everything is fine.  I thought I might be borderline with regards to timing and I was measuring too far along.  This frustrates me since it's not like I booked this appointment, the OB did.  I was always confused about how far along I was because based on LMP, today I would be 14w2d.  Based on my OPK and intercourse I would be 13w6d today.  Like I said, I knew I would be cutting it close, but my OB scheduled the scan so I went with it.

Turns out I'm measuring more like 14w6d!  This makes NO sense but I guess that's what it is.  I have an OB appointment next Thursday so I'm going to have him give me a more clear picture of what I am acutally measuring and what my due date is.

So, it is disappointing that we will not get the genetic screening that we wanted.  However, it seems like my reveal for the weekend might not end up being a surprise anymore.

As I was walking into the hospital, I hear someone calling out my name.  I wasn't sure if it was my name I was hearing so I ignored it.  They got really loud and insistent so I turned around and it was my aunt in her car.  She is a nosy, busy body and she asked why I was there.  I covered really quickly and said 'visiting a friend'.  Phew, kept our cover.  But she will probably call my Dad tonight and say she saw me. Wait, it gets better.

We are sitting in the ultrasound waiting area when my Dad's girlfriend (she works in the ER at the hospital) sees us and comes and sits down with us.  She didn't ask why we were there (thankfully and she shouldn't because of confidentiality) but said she won't say anything to anyone about seeing us there.  She obviously suspects why we were there.  I'm fine it she puts it together, as long as my Dad doesn't know because I want to share this with him myself tomorrow night.

Then, since baby was doing a headstand, I was told to go walk around the hospital and get some juice to see if baby will move.  Keep in mind, I worked at this hospital at the beginning of the year and know all the pharmacy staff.  As we were going back down the stairs, I saw my friend and just bolted because I didn't want anymore questions.

Baby did not move so they didn't even get to measure the NT.  Even though I was passed the window, they were going to try to measure anyways.  Since they didn't measure anything, there was no info on my sheet for bloodwork and the lab didn't want to do the bloodwork but I insisted that they do and then my OB can just look at the protein aspect.

All in all, it was a frustrating experience but I am so glad that I got to see the baby and the he/she looks healthy and comfortable in what appears to be an uncomfortable postion (just like her mother always does)

Sorry that got so long.

Re: NT scan - Interesting experience

  • Aw, I'm sorry it wasn't an ideal experience! I hope you get to tell your dad tomorrow too! But, it's great that the baby is healthy and comfy and doing well.
  • Oh man, I'm sorry that didn't go so hot.  It's good that you go do see an active moving baby.

Hopefully no one spills the beans on you!

  • I'm sorry the NT scan didn't work out, but it's good the baby looks healthy.

Good luck with the reveals this weekend, and I hope that nobody outs you beforehand!

  • I'm sorry you didn't get to have the NT scan measurements. As far as the dating, you're better off going by O date since you know what it is. It's not unusual to measure ahead. Perhaps you can get answers at the anatomy scan, assuming you're doing it.
