Share your cleaning "schedule"

Do you have a certain "schedule" that you use for up-keep in your house?  i.e., Mondays = laundry, Tuesdays = vacuum, etc.

Now that I'm going to be a SAHM for the next year I'd like to spread the cleaning out so it's not all being done just on the weekends and not until it *needs* to be done.  I'd like to try to stay on top of things better.   (I hate cleaning, so I feel like my A type personality would do better sectioning it out and tackling a little at a time).

What things do you do once a week?  What things do you do less frequently, ever other week, once a month, etc.

Thanks!

  • Cleaning...what's that?

  • I do our laundry Sundays and Brins Thursdays or more often if I need to. Vacuuming I usually do on Saturday and bathrooms and kitchen on Tuesdays. Anything else I do as it is needed.

  • I've never been a stay at home anything so I'm not sure what I would do but my best friend is a SAHM and has a large house... big house=lots of cleaning. I know she breaks it up but doesn't necessarily always stick to it or kick herself if it doesn't flow that way. I would imagine I'd try to knock the laundry out and whatever else I could in one day if it were me... and then do little things the rest of the week. I know my best friend actually doesnt do much, if any, cleaning on the weekends so she and her girls can just spend time with daddy/as a family.

How about you make a plan... like Mondays are dusting and floor days, Tuesday are laundry days, Wednesdays are bathrooms, Thursday misc, etc etc etc...

Personally I'd try to get whatever I could done Mon-Thur to enjoy hubby/family time when he's home. Enjoy! :)

  • I tried to do the cleaning during the week but I have to get grad work done first and Brin doesn't always make that easy. I was doin grad work Thurs Fri and housework M-W but that hasnt been happening.

  • Martha Stewart's website has some great checklists available that outline what tasks to do weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly. They're broken down by room too which makes it even better for me.

MIL bought me the Martha Stewart Guide to Homekeeping for Christmas a few years ago and it's awesome. I highly recommend it for all the tips. Most of it can be found on her website though.

  • We vaccum 2 times/week, sweep an additional 2 times/week, clean the fridge weekly, do laundry daily, clean the bathrooms on the weekends, and dust as needed.

Monthly: Clean out the pantry, Wash the windows.

Honestly, I just do it as it needs to be done and Anders will allow. We do have 2 labs so our floor cleaning may be a bit more than everyone elses, lots of dog hair daily.

  • I vacuum twice a week too... two labs here as well...

LOL This is what I first thought too :)

We vacuum and sweep at least once a week, sometimes twice depending on how bad Copper sheds.

I wash clothes probably every other day. We usually fold and put them away 2 times a week.

Bathroom gets a deep clean every other week and a touch up on the off weeks.

I will admit, my house isn't the cleanest. It was way better before we had Mags. Now we have toys scattered about and more clutter, but I guess that is mostly to be expected with a toddler!

  • Sundays-laundry and take care of Reg (flea meds if needed, brush his teeth, clip his nails, clean his crate, etc)

Monday-dust and vacuum, get all the trash taken outside so DH can take it to the curb when he gets home

    Tuesday-clean the kitchen

    Wednesday-clean the bathroom

Thursday-vacuum and do misc. stuff that needs done

    Friday-grocery shop/meal plan

    Saturday-relax

  • I also looked at martha's checklists. I have pretty much been going by these lately, with a little bit of my own thrown in, but def. a good guide to go by.

  • I've been a SAHW for over 2 years now, I try to keep up on the housework, but don't forget for the last 10 months it's been just me in this house, so it stays pretty clean. I don't necessarily have a set schedule, but here's what I do:

    Sundays I usually do laundry.

Once a week I do the bathrooms, for some reason our toilets love to get that moldy ring even scrubbing them once a week.

About once a week I break out the stick vac and swiffer wet jet and do the tile and vacuum our hard floors.

Every other week or so I vacuum the carpets.

I clean the kitchen countertops and wipe down the glass top cooktop and do any dishes every night after I'm done cooking for the night.

I dust probably every other week or so.
