I know it's been asked before...
...so I'm sorry to sound like a broken record. I need a restaurant rec.
My parents are coming the beginning of December, and my mom is practically begging me to let them take DD overnight, or at least so we can go out to dinner.
DH probably won't be able to get out of work for an overnighter, but dammit, I want to go someplace nice for dinner. I WILL make him go into the city if I have to
He's incredibly picky. Neither of us eats any kind of seafood. I love Indian food, but he hates it (or at least he thinks he does). We're both big meat eaters.
Bring it.

My favorite restaurant in the city is Sorellina. I also really like Mistral (its been around forever but still good). If you are going for romantic- I hear No. 9 Park is great but I've never been. If you are into wine- Troquet.
Have fun!
I've heard good things about Mooo (However many o's there should be there). I like Burton's, which is a little more casual. They're a local chain, though, so there may be one closer to you than the Fenway one (which is the one we go to). We went to Flemings a few weeks ago thanks to a gift card, and the steak was actually really good. (I was kind of shocked, really.)
For non-steak, I like Marliave and Grotto in the city. There's also some good restaurants in Cambridge- Craigie on Main and Ten Tables come to mind. And I know Rock also mentions Salts frequently.
These are all fantastic recs. I haven't been to Salts or Moo but I've heard great things about both and the rest I can personally recommend.
Troquet was wonderful. I've only been to Moo for their bar menu, and that's been good. Citizen Public House was super yummy! The Franklin Cafe's fall menu is awesome! Capital Grill has some of the best desserts in the city. Hamersley's YUMMM. Sel de la Terre is fun, I like the one in the Mandarin, but they are all good.
If you ever want Indian food, Mela is right around the corner from my house, and I love Indian food!
Have fun!
What area are you in? Depending on where you are, there might be some options closer to you. But, for in closer to the city, I really like Eastern Standard in Kenmore - for me, it's just the right amount of fancy. My husband says really good things about Post 390 (he goes a lot for work events).
My absolute favorite restaurant, though, is Stellina in Watertown, but it's close to home :-)
I'll be right over

I don't know many restaurants in your area, unfortunately. Apparently everyone on the board already knows many of my favorites, hahaha! No. 9 Park is perfect for a nice evening out and if I weren't so lazy about going back and forth from the city on a weeknight, we'd be doing my birthday dinner there. Maybe next year. Instead we're heading back to Salts, which apparently has a tasting menu and I'm sooooo looking forward to it!
Mistral is definitely a good option in the city too, though I think I favor No. 9 a bit more. The food at Mooo is great in my experience, but the Yelp reviews have been pretty low for some reason (3.5 stars). I've heard good things about KO Prime, but again only 3.5 stars on Yelp and I've not been there myself.
I didn't love Craigie, but the last time I went it was still on Craigie Street; I should probably give it another shot. Also didn't love Ten Tables, which took over Craigie's old location (haven't been to the one in JP).
Wellesley is closer to you than the city so you might consider Blue Ginger (Asian fusion). It's too bad you don't like seafood as my favorite dish there is the butterfish, but I'm sure there are some other tasty options you'll enjoy.
Rock - you may have missed it in the Globe this weekend, but they did DNA testing on fish at restaurants all over the state, and Blue Ginger's butterfish came up as actually being sablefish. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I thought I'd let you know!

Well that sounds totally shady! Thanks for the info; I'll have to go through it. I'll be pissed if we've been charged an upscale price for a bottom feeder or something. Still, it was delicious!

Oh, lame. Is it against copyright for me to post it here? If so I'll PM you. I subscribe to the Sunday Globe so I can read anything.
ETA: I just PMed you.
You rock, thanks, bostonbaker!
