Orlando

I have been looking around TripAdvisor.com, but I like your advice so much more :)

1. Has anyone ever been to a dinner show in Orlando?  There are so many to chose from.  I am considering the Outta Control Magic/Comedy show at Wonder Works.  The dinner is simple (pizza and salad) but DH and I like comedy shows.  We also want to go to the WW Museum, so we can get the package deal.

2.  Are City Walk and/or Down Town Disney worth going to?  They seem to have a lot of bars, which I will not be able to enjoy, but are they good places to go shop a little, walk around, and grab some food?

3. What exactly is at Old Town? and is it fun (remember, I can't go on rides)?

Thanks!

Re: Orlando

  • Old Town is a bunch of mom and pop shops and restaurants to walk through- H and I go every time we are in Orlando. On Friday and Saturday nights they also have the old car show which is really neat (you have to get there early though bc this is VERY popular)

City Walk and Down Town Disney both have restaurants and shops, but not mom and pop places. They are both nice if you just want to take a stroll.

  • There is plenty to do other than bars at City Walk and Downtown Disney.  I used to go and hang out there a lot in HS and there was plenty to entertain me with.

I also use to go to Old Town a lot in HS and it is fun.  Like Lauren said it's a lot of mom and pop shops and plenty to keep you entertained with.

If you want a nice shopping experience with a lot of cute places to eat I suggest going to Park Ave in Winter Park.......although it's not super close to all the attractions.  It's such a nice place to hang around and enjoy a lazy afternoon :)

  • I went to this gangstar dinner show .. Capone's .. last spring as a chaperone for the band/dance team trip.  It was really cheesy but entertaining enough.  The food was a buffet and it was decent.

I think a comedy show would be more fun personally since I like comedy, but Capone's was pretty cheap I think.

Also, I love Citywalk to walk around and eat dinner.  We go to the NBA restaurant or Margaritaville for dinner and Margaritaville usually has a live band.  I haven't been to downtown Disney in awhile but we used to go and had a good time.

They also have Cirque De Soleil in Disney or Blue Man Group, what about checking out one of those?

  • I actually live in Orlando but DH and I usually stay away from the tourist area for the most part so my experiences with those areas aren't very substantial.  Haven't made it to a dinner show yet (I still want to do Arabian Nights since I'm a horse nut, just gotta convince DH).  From what I've heard they're fun though.

Haven't been to Downtown Disney in awhile but it was nice last time I went.  Lots of shops to walk around in (the hat section of the main Disney store is awesome, makes for a lot of great pictures) and tons of restaurants.  Cirque is there as well and it's supposed to be a great show from what I've heard.

City Walk is fun as well, especially for a dinner out and walking around afterwards.  Margaritaville is always good (can be a bit of a wait if you don't make a reservation) and there's always Blue Man Group if you want a show as well.  If you want more low-key entertainment later on there's a piano bar in Pat O' Brien's that was fun last time I went.  There's also Rising Star, which is a karaokee club.  I've never been able to get a table since I always showed up after 10 or so and even the standing room was full, but if you get there earlier you can probably find one.  It's karaokee with a full live band and backup singers, so it's quite a change from you average karaokee place :)

Haven't made it down to Old Towne before, might have to check that out one of these days.

  • Thanks for all of the ideas!
