Anyone know about home loan grants where they pay you to purchase a home in certin cities?

I had talked to a couple yrs back who moved to Woonsocket from I believe TX.They got a grant for $30,000 for a home because so many people were moving out of Woonsocket.Does anyone know which grant this is or how to apply for one similar to it?

  • I don't know if it's still going on, but it's more of a credit to buy in certain areas. I believe it was an additional 10k added onto your loan that wouldn't have to be repaid - I could be off, it's been a bit over 2 years since we were buying our home (in Woonsocket) and this was a possibility.
We did not buy in one of the qualifying areas.

I believe there was also a stipulation that the house had to be a foreclosed property, and it had to be valued at least 20% more than the purchase price.

We learned about it through RI Housing.
