STD maternity leave

I've heard of companies requiring employees to pay back their maternity leave should they not return or leave soon after returning. I've realized my employer is not the right one for me since becoming pregnant, but with insurance being the main issue I stuck it out. I actually have a personal biz opp that I've been working on that's been taking a really long time bc of the property situation. So I've been looking at job openings and applying for a few, hoping to interview after baby, bc I really just can't take my job anymore--company really.

Long story short, if my company is really just offering ML thru my STD coverage at 60%, it's not possible for them to require me to pay that amount back, correct? It's not like they're offering me anything. It's really just the insurance. Hell, I'll be doing my job from home anyway. Still working during the time.

Just curious if anyone knew...

Re: STD maternity leave

  • Do you pat the STD coverage or do they? I pay the whole cost of mine so I don't think I would be required but am not sure.

This is my thought. Also, if they maintain your health coverage during that time, you may be required to pay that back. You may have a case for argument if you are actually working from home though.

  • When I was on Maternity Leave from my school district it was unpaid(we didn't have the option of buying STD yet) and I had to write checks to cover my health insurance premiums and other things that came out of my check directly to them.  Since STD usually is paying you not your employer you may be responsible for those.
