Laser Eye Surgery

Has anyone on here had this done in the DSM area?  I'm currently a patient at associated opthamologists, where Dr. Husain works, and am leaning toward having him do the procedure. I think it is a lot more expensive than places like Wolf though. Suggestions and advice welcome. Thanks :)

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

  • I am also a patient at Associated Opthalmologists, and I actually had LASIK scheduled w/ Husain for Jan 2011, but then I got pregnant, so I had to cancel.  Now, I am ready to schedule again, but I am pretty sure I am going to Wolfe Clinic instead.  I really liked it there when we took DD for her eye exam, plus I don't have a real reason to stick with Assoc. Opth. anymore, as my original Dr. (Fingerman) retired a few years back.  I think either one is reputable, so I will probably end up basing my choice on cost.

  • I just had a LASIK consult with Des Moines Eye Surgeons last week.  I really liked them, they were very thourough and realistic about what I should expect for my LASIK surgery.  They quoted me $2050/eye without insurance payments or discounts.

My mother went to Wolfe Eye Clinic about 5 years ago and she was not happy with her results or their clinic.  She had to go back for a second procedure because the first procedure they did wouldn't work correctly.  I also have a friend that went to them and they programmed the wrong prescription on her laser surgery and overcorrected her vision.  Now she can't see anything at all (it's all blury, so bad she can't drive, etc.) and there is nothing they can do for her because it was an overcorrection instead of an undercorrection.  I don't know which doctor it was but it makes me weary that I've had 2 bad reviews from people I know personally.

These are my eyes we're talking about, what would I do if I couldn't see for the next 40 years?  I'll be scheduling my surgery right after the first of the year so I can use my Flex Spending Account and will have a review to share then about Des Moines Eye Surgeons.

I normally go to DSM EYE for my regular appointments, and Dr. Ball is AMAZING! He preformed both of my mom's caterac surgery, and I'd LOVE to have him do my lasik when I can afford ir. I highly recommend DSM Eye too!

I have heard he is the best.  If I were to get it done, that's who I would go to.
