Write to Your 16 Year Old Self
The morning show I listen to is talking about the letter Stephen King wrote to his 16 year old self and what they would write to their 16 year old selves. It's pretty interesting. What would you write to yourself?

Re: Write to Your 16 Year Old Self
-Let your dad back into your life a little. He's going to die in a couple of years and you're really going to regret not letting him in now.
-Your BF is a good person, but make time for your girlfriends. He's going to graduate two years before you do and your relationships with your friends will have atrophied.
-When you start having trouble in your classes this year, talk to your teacher's. They'll help, but it will be a lot more painful if you wait for them to approach you.
-I know you're doubting your desire to go to private college. Yes, the loans will be expensive, but it will be worth it for the people you meet and the things you'll experience.
These are some things I wrote in a letter to 15 year old me in my blog the other day.
Would you tell yourself about that secret stash of M&M's hidden in your underwear drawer? Would you tell yourself not to get that perm your freshman year of college? Would you have told yourself to work harder in college, to have a plan for after? To follow your dreams and not to worry about what others think?
I would also tell myself that the relationship you have with your mom is really special, and in a few years when she dies of cancer your going to be really happy you have all of those moments and memories together.
You really do know what you want to do with the rest of your life, your just too worried about what others will think ( dad especially) to go for it. Go for it.
Your brother is going to be a lot more important in your life than you though. Your mom was right, you're going to need each other a lot more in your adult years than you ever though possible. Yes his faults are big sometimes, but so are yours. Remember to tell him you love him.

~All AL'ers welcome~
- He is NOT the one. Trust me.
- Stop being so dramatic.
- It's OK to say no. You put a lot of pressure on yourself because you want to please everyone...but in the end, your happiness is most important.
- That boy down the street? He's a good catch. You'll learn that once you give him a chance.
- Learn to take chances. You don't have to follow the crowd - or have their approval - to be happy. Don't be afraid to carve your own niche and find your own way. It'll get you out of that town that tends to suck everyone in, which is definitely what you want, right?
- The people that matter stick around. The others will fade, and you'll be glad they did.
-Learn the benefits of eating right and exercising now, because when you're older you're going to struggle.
-Get more involved in school.
-Pick a different college
-Become more flexible and realize that you cannot control everything and that is more than OK.
-Spend more time with your family.
-don't ever wear those short adidas shorts you wore during cross country practice.
-don't ever sit in the front passenger seat of a korean taxi when it gets dark
-stop trusting everyone so much
-no, you do not want to be a lawyer. you ended up as a trainer wanting to be a PT instead.
-spend more time with your family while you can. Be nicer to your mom.
-The next couple of years are going to suck
-Don't lose your V card to who you did. Gross.
-Keep going to college. Don't stop.
-Make someone else do your thyroid surgery.
Don't let mom get to you... It is going to get worse and you will have to deal with more than just her spiteful words. Brace yourself.
You are capabable of following your dreams. Don't listen to mom's opinion. Finish college.
Get that stick out of your butt, and learn how to forgive. You will regret holding a grudge when that person leaves forever.
You will have to sing in front of people one day, please start lessons now or you will be mortified every.single.time you open your mouth.
Encourage your dad and sister more, they are having a hard time too.
He broke up with you and started dating your "friend." Don't waste tears over him because is so not worth and someone much better will come along when you are ready. Truth of the matter she was sleeping with him while you wanted to wait. She is not your friend. True friends will never do anything like that to you.
SLOW DOWN!!! You don't need to speed so much oh yeah and there is a speed trap next to the Piggly Wiggly.
Do not have that party at the house. Mom will find out and you will have to busy tables a Western Steer to pay back all of the cost of repairs. Oh yeah and you will miss all of the fun Christmas parties, the basket ball championship game and several school dances because she is NOT going to let you out of the house until April.
Wearing a size 4 does not make you fat!
Oh man...16 was a rough year for me...
-Beg your brother to come to Yosemite with the rest of the family for the day. If he says he isn't going to, beg him not to go out partying with his friends, if he still say's he's going to, tell him you love him and are thankful for him. At least you will be able to say goodbye.
-Mom's mistakes aren't your own. Despite her choosing to stay with a man who violated you, you will heal and be strong again.
-Stay away from the boy who goes to the private school. Despite his charm he will hurt you and destroy you. It will take years to recover the innocence, self esteem, and self worth he stole from you.
-Charm is deceitful and beauty is fleeting but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised
-Get better friends. Even if it means stepping out of the "popular" crowd.
-Keep your legs closed. There is someone out there keeping his V card just for you. Do him a favor and keep yours too.
-Fight harder to hang on to your best friend. She's a really good person and if you don't maintain the friendship you'll lose something that's really worth keeping.
-It's okay if you still don't know what you want to be when you grow up, but whatever you do in the meantime, do your best. It all matters and everything is a mean to an end. Don't let your attitude get in the way of your focus.
-It's okay to challenge yourself. Just because one subject is difficult for you doesn't mean that it's the wrong subject for you.
There are specific things that I would have told myself to do or not do, but then I'd lose the path that led me to be the person that I am today, and I wouldn't want to give any of that up.
- Don't go drinking at Jenny's house the night her mom is away. It's just not worth the drama later.
- It's okay to not always be the responsible one.
- He will survive without you. You don't need to be responsible for him and taking care of his stoned ass.
- Take high school chemistry. Seriously. Going to college as a science major without any basic chemistry sucks. :-p
You have ADHD. Go see a psychiatrist now. Save yourself years of frustration and lost opportunities.
You will meet a man you want to marry (and who wants to marry you!). Be patient, it will take a while, but he will be worth the wait! Oh, and you'll have a precious little boy, but again, it will take time. And start saving your pennies now, you'll need them for infertility treatments.
Love,
Your older and wiser self
