House Update

quick update.

we closed friday, the selling of our house went smoothly the guy buying it and even his dad weren't atleast in a good happy mood. the dad wore a bow tie. the realtor made banana bread and they cursed which made me lol. also i left my breastmilk at the house and we had to go back for it, which was hilarious.

closing on our new place, was annoying, they were racist croutchy old men.  who were know it alls. and you know felt like we robbed them or something. AND JUST WOULDN'T LET THINGS GO. he lives three blocks away, awesome. they made some like outsiders comments to us. they made a racist comment. just all over rude. the realtor is from here and friends with the son of the owner/estate head so she was just as bad and made some pretty terrible comments.

the move of our stuff went smoothly, however i did cry friday night and was like OMG THIS WAS MISTAKE I HATE THIS PLACE. also p's family didn't leave right away after the move and it was like PLEASE JUST LEAVE, let me get stuff set up. but now things are moving along.

i like the place much better now and i like having machissmo burritos delivered.

Too kind. Also mz is the best and brought amazo chilly and tasty cupcakes yesterday 800 bonus points.

  • House selling and buying, I think, is one of the most stressful things you can go through! Even more-so if you have kids! The house will feel like "yours" in no-time. I felt like I was sleeping over in someone else's house for the first few weeks. It's really disorienting!

Maybe we'll run into each other at Target again sometime, now that we're both in the 'burbs! Milo is so cute!

  • Now that the hardest part is behind you, relax and enjoy making the place your own.  Congratulations!
  • So glad you are done with all the selling and buying "stuff" and you'll be settled into your new place in no time, congrats to you guys again!

  • I'm sure the sellers of your new place just colored your experience with their awful-ness. And I'm certain your new place is awesome.  You'll be settled before you know it!

  • Congrats!  I think everyone has that feeling the first night in a new home.  I love our house and was never particularly fond of our apartment even though it was very nice, but the first night in our house, I couldn't sleep and cried because I- surprise- missed the apartment! I kept thinking to myself this was a mistake and maybe we should've bought a house that didn't need to be renovated (mind you when we moved in, our house was still very much a work in process with half a kitchen and all of our tools sititng in the living room like it was a tool shed and we were basically living out of the master bedroom)

Those sellers sound like real whackos.  You must feel good to be finally done with them.

I look forward to hearing updates on how you make this place your own- I love the pics on Milo's blog.

  • Glad everything is done.  You'll be settled in no time and it will feel like your own place.  Best of luck in the new place.  Let me know when I can pick up my awning and horse and buggy door charm. ;-)
  • Congrats again on the new house. Hopefully you won't have to see or run into the sellers.

I have a bag of tacky lace curtains and bathroom rugs for you first.

Thanks for all the good thoughts. Really I like the place more and more. We are living out of two rooms and the downstairs at the moment. The master/upstairs have nothing in them. I have some wallpaper in the master to rip down today :)

  • Glad to hear things went well!

I hate it when IL's don't get the hint to leave.

  • Sounds like you bought from a "lifer" as DH and I have come to call them. Some of the families in the area have been around forever and they are super clicky. They also rarely venture outside of the Yunk/Falls/Rox area.  It's almost a small town dynamic and very weird for a growing and changing neighborhood when you're an "outsider". Our realtor was from the area and would run into family and friends all the time while showing us houses. The racist part also seems be common with them. Hopefully your actual neighbors are a bit nicer. Let me know when you're settled and feeling up to grabbing that drink!

Ditto this.  My grandparents, my dad and extended family were all born in the Falls and I've heard stories about how the realtors would try to keep people out of the neighborhood.

Good luck with everything.  I'm sure once you put your personal touches on the house it will feel like home!

  • I will be stopping by on Wednesday to hear about the townies.  Have the beer chilled.

I can show you all of the racist townie hot spots.  I remember one night in the East End Tavern where someone side eyed me and I was all "I pay Manayunk taxes!".  I have found they generally dial it back when they find out you own.  Also, *** about parking.  They love that!
